  1. I might grow to like it, and maybe it's better than I think, but to me, we need an ace. If we go for multiple tier 2's, I'd hope we add 3 SP'ers: 2 from Stroman, Imanaga, ERod, Wacha plus one from Lugo, Giolito, Paxton, Severino, Montas
  2. Our pen moves from good to very good to great depending on how many of these guys are in the pen all year or nearly all year: Whitlock: likely good Whitlock and Houck: likely very good Whitlock, Houck and one from Cutter/Pivetta: likely Great All 4 in the pen is an almost certain "great" 8-9th inning: Jansen Martin Winckowski 7-8 inning Schreiber Campbell Bernardino Long men: Whitlock Houck (Bernardino to AAA) Cutter or Pivetta (Campbell or Schreiber to AAA) Assuming no pitchers are on IL (LOL!)
  3. Agreed. I would even say trying to improve our #4 is not good enough, unless we also land Yamo or Snell.
  4. You don't consider Bauer? Hopefully, the Dodgers sign Kershaw and are happy with that. That leaves NYY, NYM, BOS and a few others looking to spend to fight over Yamo and Monty. The losers will then fight over Bauer, Imanaga, Stroman, ERod and Wacha/Giolito/Lugo/Montas. I know Lugo has a short sample size as a SP'er, but he will not get a long deal, being 34. I'm not sure why so many never mention him. I'd much rather have him than Turnbull, Flaherty, Montas and maybe even Giolito. I'd also prefer Paxton and maybe Severino over Turnbull & Flaherty.
  5. I'd still go... 1. Yamo 2. Bello 3. Sale (Houck, if Sale to IL) 4. Pivetta 5. Cutter I know this cuts down on our nice long men in the pen to just Whitlock and maybe Murphy, but I don't see Turnbull as being better than our borderline pen guys like Bernardino, Campbell, Schreiber and maybe even Kelly & Mata.
  6. Agreed, and trying to slightly improve our #5 is like what we've been doing for 3-4 years, except our #5 additions were expected to be our #2-3's.
  7. For argument's sake, let's say we add Lugo or Stroman plus Turnbull.... 1. Bello 2. Stroman/Lugo 3. Sale (LOL) 4. Pivetta 5. Kutter 6. Turnbull What pitcher does he bump off the 26, or do you have him starting in AAA on openiung day? (Is he out of options?) Jansen Martin Winckoski Houck Whitlock Schreiber Trade or DFA Mata? Demote Bernardino and Campell? If we can get Turbull on a minor league deal, then yes. Otherwise, I don't see the fit.
  8. Agreed. I do not believe their hype talk, though. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times, "F" you!
  9. Agreed, but as a SP'er, it is close.
  10. Adding Duvall seems like the most likely specific addition we can name. (Trading Dugo seems like the second most predictable winter move made.)
  11. Can McGuire play 1B? (I still like letting Devers learn to play 1B over the winter with a few reps in ST'ing.)
  12. Is Whitlock "reliable," especially as a SP'er? (Note: I'd rather have him than Turnbull, but I like him in the pen, so...
  13. It sucks we are talking about tier two, so quickly. To me, signing the two best tier two is a lame approach, even if they are "improvements" over what we have. Their biggest asset is that they force some of our tweeners to the pen. Am I alone in thinking Seth Lugo should be near the top of the tier 2 list? I might order tier 2 like this: (Kershaw to LAD) 1. Imanaga 1B. Bauer (w baggage) 3. Stroman 4. Lugo 5. ERod 6. Wacha 7. Giolito Tier 3 (Borderline helpful.) 1. Flaherty 2. Paxton 3. Y Rod (RP?) 4. Montas 1 yr 5. Severino 1 yr Tier 4 (No thank you) Ryu, Lorenzen, Turnbull, Manaea, Clevinger, Miley
  14. I thought someone would give him 4- maybe at $23-25M per year.
  15. He has an option left, so he can start the season in AAA, unlike Llovera and Mata.
  16. I have Weiss going before Robertson, based on the fact that we traded for Robertson and picked up Weiss on waivers. I know, I know, not too scientific. My top 3 are all about even. I agree on Dalbec. I guess, if Casas gets hurt, we could add someone like Jordan or Kavadas real quickly, and promote them. I think we will use Rafaela as MI depth, so maybe DHam could be moved up the list, assuming we add a legit 2Bman. If there is no room on the 26 for Mata, and we only add 4 players to the 40 man, we will keep Robertson, Dalbec or DHam, instead.
  17. I see more than 3, but they all have options, which changes the dynamic. 1. Llovera 0 options (1st to go) 2. Weiss 2 3. Jacques 2 4. Dalbec 1 5. DHam 2 (Unless we add 1-2 middle IF'ers, I'd keep DHam over Mata.) 6. Robertson 2 (I'd keep Robertson over Mata due to options.) 7. Mata 0 options Mata squeezes the 26 roster, but we are due to have injuries, so like you said, keep him on the 40 for as long as possible through ST'ing. Maybe we can find a team that makes a 2 or 3 for 1 trade that involves 2-3 players from our 40 man roster, thus creating another slot on the 40 for other additions.
  18. Agreed. Even the best 2 of the second tier would not make me happy. We are not getting Ohtani (who won't pitch in 2024, so he does not count) or Nola, so that leaves Yamo, Monty, Gray and Snell. If Gray sings with STL, we are left with some really big spenders drooling over those last 2.
  19. If they have the best shot to make it to the bigs and produce, YES! Draft one every year, if that's the way the cards are stacked.
  20. If he's the best pitcher we add, I won't be very happy.
  21. Sounds like the right plan. If we sign or add more than 4-5 players, we may be forced to deal him earlier- assuming someone wants him. I'd like to keep him over 6-8 borderline 40 man roster guys, but he's out of options, and unless we have several injuries, I can't see him making the 26.
  22. If we miss out on both Gray and Monty, I see Yamo and Snell as the only top quality SP'ers left on the FA board. Maybe we trade for Cease or Burnes and sign Lugo.
  23. Dobbins and Paulino were very borderline on my list. Your ides seem fine, to me.
  24. Maybe it was that high K rate and absurdly high K:BB rate.
  25. I thought about Yuten over Paulino and Campbell over Hickey as the back-up DH. I also did not like typing in DHam as the back-up SS, when we have so many SSs in the system, but I put Cespedes at 1st string 3B and Romero at 1st string UT IF'er. I had Dobbins and Gambrell tied for the 4/5 slots. I've lost faith in Drohan.
