    I'm not sure it matters- the reason. It was probably a few things combined. With major cuts to the budget on the horizon, it was not going to be a good fit for DD or the Sox. That is not how DD is best situated.

    I'm staying for 4 days with an old friend I haven't seen in 30 years, who lives an hour from Sevilla, after landing in Barcelona. We are later meeting some friends from Mexico who are travelling the area around Porto, Portugal. After spending some days with them in Porto and Lisbon, we will rent a car and drive down the coast to Faro. From their, we fly to Bilbao for 3 days, then to Madrid for 2 days before coming home in mid July. We went to Europe 12 years ago for 9 weeks. It took us 2 months to plan, almost every night after work for 2-4 hours.

    I made it to Portland, today. I'm only staying 3 weeks, this summer, then I'm taking the wife to Spain & Portugal. I think my streak of watching consecutive Sox games, some on tape delay, will end in June.

    Maybe we can hope for... 1-1 v ATL 4-0 v CWS 3-3 v PHI & NYY for an 8-4 mark. (more likely... the best might be 1-1 v ATL, 3-1 v CWS, 2-4 v PHI & NYY for a 6-6 stretch.) I'd be happy w 7-5.

    Just like that, we are back over .500 and at #7 in the AL, just 2.5 GB MIN. We are also just 2.0 Games Ahead of last place TBR & TOR. It looks like "one of those years."

    Woo lost. Wink got rocked hard. I Campbell and Z Kelly looked good in relief. Dalbec homered (2-4) Meidroth walked 3 times POR won. Teel 3 for 4 w 4 rbi. Mayer 1-4 w 2BB. Lugo with 2 hits and staying above 1.000. McDonough 3-5 (up to .781) GRE was shutout 4-0 JH Garcia 2-3 w HBP SAL lost 7-6

    This begs the question on our past pitching gurus. Did we have other Houcks in the past, but bumbled their development and choice of pitching strategy? We’ve heard a lot about how poorly our system has been at acquiring and developing young pitchers, but now, we seem to have a few very promising arms. Most are the same guys we had before, when we said we sucked.

    Agreed, but we obviously thought we didn’t need more than Giolito, so they must have had some faith in him.

    I think Abreu will be the FT RFer, and we sign a pier RHB to be the DH/RF or 1B back-up. I hope but don’t think we add a TORSP, but maybe Pivetta returning would be enough, if we can stay healthy.

    ...and O'Neill can't fix that, unless we move Rafaela to SS FT. With a middle IF or Rafaela & Grissom, it's hard to expect much offense or power.
