  1. We shoulda kept Pablito around.
  2. Top Sox Prospects by Age: Younger non prospects in RED... Age 18: 10. Cespedes 11. Zanetello 14. Joh Garcia 22. Anderson 30. Arias Age 19 1. Anthony 5. Bleis 18. Romero 29. Alcantara 35. Brannon 37. C Coffey 39. Paez 42. Yuten Age 20 2. Mayer 7. Perales 13. Castro 19. Jordan 24. E R-C Age 21 3. Teel 6. Yorke 9. Wikelman 17. Paulino 20. Monegro 45. K Campbell Age 22 12. Meidroth 26. Bastardo 34. Rogers Age 23 Casas 4. Rafaela 25. Guerrero 44. I Coffey Age 24 Bello Abreu E Valdez N Robertson 8. Abreu 15. Drohan 16. Nathan 23. Dobbins 27. Mata 28. Hoppe 31. Fernandez 33. Troye 50. Rosier Age 25 Winckowski Murphy Age 26 Devers Duran 21. DHam 36. Gambrell 38. Penrod 40. Scott 60. Song Age 27 Crawford Houck Whitlock Verdugo Wong 32. Walter (Note: MLB player ages are from BR, and are not updated. Many are 1 year older than listed.)
  3. BTV accepts this deal that I seriously doubt the CWS would agree to... Yorke Schreiber Perales Valdez Drohan (Yorke and Drohan not on 40, so a 3 for 2 roster trade) for Cease & Jimenez (The CWS do save a boatload of money.)
  4. I think that comment was retracted. MLBTR reported... Martino also adds a clarification to a statement made by Wolfe earlier in the week, as the agent told Japanese media during a conference call that his client would have no problem playing with another Japanese player. Due to a translation error, this was incorrectly interpreted as Wolfe saying that Yamamoto was prioritizing teams that already had at least one Japanese player on the roster, which isn’t the case.
  5. It does not appear to be Bloom's best draft, but it was the Covid year, we did not have high picks, there were only 5 rounds, and we lost the 2nd pick due to sign stealing, which was before Bloom's tenure. Current rankings by draft: Red= top 20 2020 6. Yorke (1st round) 15. Drohan (5th round) $236K over slot, too 19. Jordan (3rd round) NR Wu-Yelland (4th) 2021 2. Mayer (1st) 16. Hickey (5th) $600K overslot 23. Dobbins (8th) 24. E R-C (4th) 25. Guerrero (17th) 33. Troye (12th) NR Sikes (18th) NR Uberstine (19th) NR Kavadas (11th) 2022 1. Anthony (2nd Comp) $1.6M overslot 12. Meidroth (5th) 18. Romero (1st) 28. Hoppe (6th) $230K overslot 34. Rogers (3rd) 35. Brannon (9th) $550K overslot 37. C Coffey (2nd) 44. I Coffey (10th) $143K underslot 59. Mullins (12th) 2023 3. Teal (1st) $660K underslot 11. Zanetello (2nd) $1.3M overslot 22. Anderson (3rd) $650K overslot 45. K Campbell (4th Comp) 48. J Riemer (4th Comp) 56. C Early (5th)
  6. It looks like a fair deal. I'm not sure matching it gets him to BOS. We might have needed to beat it by $5M- maybe $85M/3 or $95 to 100M/4. Depending on what Yamo and Monty make, and assuming they don't sign with us, I would not give Brez a pass. I guess, if we sign Snell, he's off the hook.
  7. With all the graduations and rising and falling prospects, the farm is now almost all Bloom's. Non Bloomers in top 30: 4. Rafaela (should graduate in '24) 7. Perales (on the 40 but likely will start in A+ ball) 9. Wikelman (on the 40 but likely will start in AA ball) 13. Castro (Rule 5 eligible and likely to start in A+ ball) 17. Paulino (same as Castro) 26. Bastardo (same as Wikelman) 27. Mata (on 40 and out of options) Bloom grads: Whitlock Winckowski Wong Bernardino E Valdez Kelly, N Robertson, J Jacques Abreu should graduate in 2024. (maybe DHam.)
  8. Gray actually is guaranteed $80M/3, as the deal is $25M x 3 with a team option at $30M for year 4 with a $5M buyout. I was thinking someone might offer him $90-100M/4.
  9. I did not want Nola, either, but he's better than those beyond the top 5. I did not view STL as one of the 3 biggest spenders. Maybe LAD will stop at Kershaw. NYY NYM Then, there is rumblings that several teams, besides the Sox, are looking to spend more, or are cutting some salary, so they can: BOS TOR SFG (missed out on Correa, last year) ATL PHI is rumored to maybe spend more. BAL? I might be missing another 1 or 2.
  10. Yorke did sign for $2.7M ($900K below slot) Jordan did sin for $1.75M (about $1.1M above slot) I'm not sure any team can plan 2 draft picks 2 rounds apart, but the numbers match your theory. Hey, at least neither is a SS!!!!
  11. I don't trust a word they say. My expectations are at zero, well, I do think we add 2 SP'ers, but the floor, to me it Flaherty & Lugo. I'm hoping we do way more, but I'm not optimistic. The Nola and Gray signings have not changed a thing, in terms of my lack of optimism.
  12. 2 of the 5 are off the boards. Our odds of signing one have fallen. Yes. Of course, we still have a chance, but the odds are lower once Nola and Gray went elsewhere.
  13. I agree. Brez needs to identify the prospects with value he's willing to part with, bite the bullet and pull the trigger. Garrett has 5 years left Detmers & Javier 4 Luzardo, T Rogers, Luis Garcia, Sandoval & Singer 3 Cease & M Keller 2 years left. Burnes, Glasnow and Beiber 1 Maybe more might be available.
  14. I did not mean to imply he will reach 162- only that his rate of production over the last 3 years was as stated. 2018 (122/162) and 2020 (55/60) were long ago. Since then: 55 in 2021 (18 GS at DH/ 37 OF) 84 in 2022 (50 GS at DH/ 30 OF) 120 in 2023 (104 GS at DH/ 14 OF) These numbers show he plays more the more he DHs. It does not mean that trend continues, but I just pointed out that as a DH, he may be expected to play more than his overall average has shown. I'm not high on him. I think he'd be a nice RH'd bat as a DH, but we have a DH. If the CWS insisted we take him to get Cease, I'd swallow the pain pill and do it for Duran, Yorke and Perales, despite the overpay. BTV accepts: Duran & Wink for the two. (Also Duran & Schreiber) Duran & Yorke is an overpay, even without Perales. Maybe Duran, Perales, Drohan & EValdez would not be bad. (BTV accepted.)
  15. We saw maybe 5 higher quality SP'er option: Yamo, Snell, Nola, Gray and Monty. Two have been signed by teams not considered to be the one of the big 2-3 spenders, this winter. There are 3 left. The chances the Sox get one has fallen. "Nervous?" maybe.
  16. 2023 3.30 ERA ERod (134 ERA+/3.66 FIP) Last 3 yrs: 4.04/109/3.70 3.95 ERA Stroman (113 ERA+/3.58 FIP) 3 years: 3.45/122/3.60 SOX 4.24 Bello (107/4.54) 4.04 Craw (113/3.83) 5.01 Houck (91/4.43) 4.30 Sale (106/3.80) 4.04 Pivetta (113/3.96) Worse as SP'ers: Bello, Houck & Sale the same 4.51 Crawford 4.66 Pivetta To me, all the "tier 2" SP'erds are better than 3-4 of our 2023 SP'ers. The "tier 3" SP'ers are likely better than 1-2, but they would improve our pen by moving one to the pen.
  17. If CWS insistes we take Jimenez to get Cease, I'm okay with the idea. I will add that I do not want Duran in CF, so Duran, Yorke (who I see as overrated) and Perales for Cease and E Jimenez takes away that option from Cora. Cease has 2 years. I like Monty more than him, and we don't have to give up any players for him. I'd love to get Cease and Monty.
  18. Dodgers re-sign Heyward to $9M/1.
  19. The issue then was the budget. I think we wanted ERod and Wacha back, but not at those terms. (Wacha tuned out pretty cheap for 1 year, though.) I'd rather get Yamo, Monty or Snell. I like Imanaga and Stroman better than ERod and Wacha, but there are many teams looking to add SP'ers. We may have to settle on ERod & Wacha. ERod, Wacha and Lugo is about the min I'd be okay with.
  20. At DH, he should stay healthier, and he is a big RH'd bat. Last 3 yrs numbers per 162 games: .274 28 97 (.785 OPS) The problem is, he pushes Yoshida back to LF, and maybe Duran to CF or part of the trade. I'd rather find a way to get Cease without Jimenez.
  21. I'd be really bummed with Giolito and Flaherty. 2 from Imanaga, Stroman, ERod and Wacha might keep me interested.
  22. Severino was at 95-97 for 19 starts in MLB, but he sucked for many of those starts. I like the Montas idea. I might like Paxton better (on a 1 yr deal.)
  23. One thing about this rotation: Cora will be able to yank anyone very early due to having 4 very capable long RP'ers: Pivetta Crawford Houck Whitlock There would be an epic battle for the third Short RP slot: 1. Jansen 2. Martin 3. Winckowski, Campbell, Bernardino, Schreiber and Mata (no options.) Kelly and Murphy in AAA Chances are, Sale and or another pitcher start the season on the IL, so it might not get to frantic. Either way, it's a nice problem to have for the pen.
  24. Being out of options would make Llover have to beat out Mata plus force better pitchers with options to AAA. DFA him and Weiss, soon.
