  1. I don't disagree, but many of us said the same thing about our farm, when Bello, Crawford, Houck and Wink were there. We also were able to add prospects Whitlock, Slaten, Bernardino and others without drafting them. That being said, I have very little hopes in our prospects, especiallt starters.
  2. One could argue .400 was overperforming.
  3. I'm not thrilled about this year's team, either, despite the pitching surprises. Not being god-awful is not something fans want to hope for.
  4. Of course. No argument here. I was the guy willing to pay $400M/14 (pre-COVID) for Betts.
  5. Yes, better but still lacking in brightness. We spent much of the "saved money" of Betts and Price and failures, so we certainly would have been better. I'm just saying after 2019 and 2020, even with Betts, our future would not have looked all that bright.
  6. If we can't find a taker, and he can hit over .750, I suppose he could get some PAs in LF and PH. As of now, I'm not benching Duran or Abreu so he can play, either.
  7. True, but even beyond Mookie, we had a weak looking farm that produced only Houck between Devers and bello/Casas. We had aging players. We had players nearing the end of arbs. Had we kept Betts and the same budgets after 2019, our future would still not looked too good.
  8. 3B: Story (Devers) SS: Mayer (Story/Grissom) 2B: Grissom (Valdez/Yorke) 1B: Devers/Casas DH: Casas/Devers Traded: Yoshi
  9. Indeed, and Grissom has a .715 career OPS in a small sample size of 220+ PAs. As of now, he's pencilled in at 2B, because nobody looks to have a better shot at winning the job.
  10. To some, the best idea is to just keep bad fielders playing at the position they suck at. Not me. The team would be better, if we played guys at positions where they get less exposed.
  11. What a shame. What is the injury?
  12. We had some real stinkers before 1967, but after that year, we have not had all that many really bad years. Based on worst winning % in team history, here are our worst seasons after '67: .400 in 2020 (short season) 12th worst all time .426 in 2012 (17th worst) Right before a ring season .438 in 2014 (19th worst) Right after a ring season .451 in 1992 (24th worst) 9 wins from .500 .470 in 1994 (27th worst) Short season .481 in 1983 (32nd worst and just 3 wins away from .500 and sandwiched between winning seasons) There have really just been 4-5 really bad seasons since 1967 (58 seasons)
  13. Just Yoshida, unless you are okay with him playing LF again. Casas is not good on D at 1B. Having Devers and Casas share the DH and 1B slot 100% is not an issue. Trading Yoshida plsu half or more of his contract may be the only solution. Duran deserves to play. I'm not benching him to get Yoshida playing time in LF.
  14. No, and that is why I think moving him to 1B/DH improves the team and his value. People say why pay him $300M to DH, but is it better to pay him $300M to suck at defense 2 out of every 3 years, or 2.5 out of 4 years?
  15. Agreed, but it beats mediocrity with the future looking bleak, like after 2019 and 2020. It doesn't make me content, but happiness is always relative and at varying levels on a scale.
  16. Ah, 2 and 2 vs 3 alternating home and away. That is better.
  17. He's decent on D, every 2-3 years, or so, and for parts of the other seasons.
  18. Losing Betts will always be unforgivable.
  19. I think he'd be a better defensive 1Bman than Casas after just a few short months of adjustments. His main issue on D is throwing, not glovework. I do worry about his footwork, and at 1B, it is very important. Maybe playing Casas and Devers 81 games at 1B and 81 games at DH would allow them to get more ABs, due to less need for full days off, and perhaps even lessen their chances of injury. If Mayer turns out to be a keeper, maybe we can shift Story to 3B. (Not sure his arm can handle it.) C: Wong-Teel 1B/DH: Devers-Casas 2B: Grissom (AAA: EValdez/Yorke) 3B: Story (AAA: Meidroth) SS: Mayer (Story/Grissom) LF: Duran (Refsnyder/Abreu) CF: Anthony-Rafaela RF: Abreu-Anthony With the pitching staff looking more encouraging than it has since 2018, maybe- just maybe, we can become relevant sooner than some seem to think.
  20. Yes. You are right. My bad. I think the rivalry series is just 2 games, a year, so it's not a biggie, but with ATL & PHI being powerhouses, these days, it's not helping our already meager chances at doing something, this year.
  21. Love this post, and I'm not even a big fan of fretting about high K rates (or low ones for pitchers who get outs in other ways.)
  22. Do you feel better about our extended future than you did near the end of 2019? (I'm pretty sure most do as compared to after 2020.) Does that have any value?
  23. To each his own. I like paying attention to how we are doing compared to others, but I would not think it's "worrying" to any extent.
  24. Sounds right, but I do have higher expectations for the future than I did starting about midway through 2019 to midway 2021 and then again after the midway point of 2022 to now. I know that ain't worth squat to some posters, but it does give me some comfort. Don't get me wrong: this sucks. It has for 4 out of the last 5 years, and counting. I am not getting my hopes up that JH will change his recent ways, which are not as bad as many make it out to be, but I'm not convinced he will never spend bigly, again, either.
  25. We needed/need too many things to go right, all at once. The Casas, Story and Gio major injuries will likely outweigh a whole bunch of things going right.,
