  1. Going over some trade rumors I found Marlins had interest in Buchholz but didn't like the $13.5M price tag. But somehow they liked Volquez enough for a $13M price tag. Now sure, EV has a better chance at eating more innings than Buch, but Buch definitely has the higher ceiling and they're floors are pretty much the same in my book. Just thought that was interesting. I've been pretty critical of Buch and I'd still prefer Buchholz at that price over Volquez. Maybe that's just me?
  2. But.. but I planned on getting Sale. Ok I got it thanx
  3. That's great and all, but can we have that $35.2M back?
  4. Something tells me they DD still has a little faith in Abad. The talk has always been we needed at least 2 RPers this off-season. I don't know what's changed? Thornburg and who else? Did I miss a signing?
  5. Sam Travis got hurt too though and missed most of the season, no? I also remember reading he had a great attitude and really focused more than the other players around him.
  6. What I'd like to do is trade Buch (dump some salary and get a fairly decent prospect) and free up room to sign Koji. Maybe even get under cap?
  7. I'd go w/ Wright as the SP over Pom as well. Wright had his worst games when in bad weather. Not sure how practical it would be to have Pom stretched out enough at the ready for those situations. I'm guessing it probably isn't that practical at all. I don't blame Wright for getting hurt in the 2nd half. He was doing so well. Hate to see him get over-looked ot demoted because of that.
  8. Acquiring Sale, I would like to think, takes some pressure off Price & Porcello in big game post-season situations of being "The ACE". Maybe they can relax next time around and just pitch.
  9. From past scouting reports, footwork - wise? , (if that falls under athleticism) yes Pablo is a superior 3B.
  10. He had me until the last paragraph.
  11. Lol
  12. Oh, I'm not denying that. But DD did have a fire sale with the Marlins after winning a WS ('97) and much of what he acquired helped them win another WS ('03) a few years later ( even though he wasn't technically with the team when they won that 2nd one). One question that probably can't be answered about DD & Detriot is, would their future look any better right now if he stayed on? I'm simply playing devil's advocate here. Your points are factual. I'm just not totally convinced he's inept at making good longer term deals from the other side of the fence when you take his whole career into account.
  13. I see what you're saying, but I'd still rather deal Pomeranz. ANd yes, from the point of view that if Erod were on another team we'd be drooling over him, I agree. I think the only way I'd trade Erod were if it sent Sandoval along in the trade.
  14. Not funny? geez, tough crowd:D
  15. Exactly. I mean, Betts was a 5th round pick, both Shaw & Vazquez a 9th round pick. It's more than just your 1st or 2nd pick. If things start to look ugly 2-3-4 years from now, in all fairness DD is very familiar with fire sales and building back up. I think it's important to point out red flag areas like not getting enough back from these past 5 or 6 trades for example, especially during a time Sox are being penalized from the International market. It's good to honest about it. But if you look at what the Yankees did this past season and the trades they made to continue building, maybe it won't take as long as we think? That's also exciting to me, the way BC built our farm. To me that side of it can be almost as exciting as DD's recent moves. It's not like I won't be a fan of a last place Red Sox team in 5 years from now if that were to happen.
  16. true, Sox don't have to be under LT limit at the start of the season, it's where they're at when all is said and done at the end. Still, the way Buch's health usually goes, I'd like to trade him as soon as possible. I'd take a RPer for him ( even though I know the FO said they're done acquiring BP help).
  17. Well see, CWA+ (Opened Can of Woop Ass) has much more meaning than the old CWA (non-opened). It takes into other considerations like park factor, sea level, and whether there's a line of dirt from the pitcher's mound to home plate or if it's all just grass. [sighs..] f*** man, keep up.
  18. You know you want Buchholz. We'll throw in Abad...
  19. Talk about a short-term move... yikes
  20. Could you imagine if that happened? That would be insane.
  21. I don't see Sox being able extend anyone too early with out trading Pablo. So I hope he has a great year.
  22. yes
  23. David Ortiz took to social media Tuesday night to say Sale being in “Btown” got him “thinking.” http://www.boston.com/sports/boston-red-sox/2016/12/06/the-chris-sale-deal-has-david-ortiz-thinking
  24. My hope is that Pablo has gotten his act together enough to help the team win next season and build his trade value, while Devers takes major steps on becoming our next 3B by 2018 or mid 2018.
  25. MLBTR usually posts links to the reactions around the league/media on blockbuster deals like this, but I haven't seen any there. Have there been any good write-ups about this yet?
