  1. The Red Sox and Drew Pomeranz are locked in an arbitration stalemate - FanSided https://apple.news/Ajb1NiV2aPdqJro3gqKapdQ
  2. Andrew Benintendi joins Mariner catcher Mike Zunino and Seattle outfield prospect Kyle Lewis in "winning the 'Heisman equivalent of college baseball' and being ranked within the top 50 of the top 100." Yeah, that is impressive.
  3. Lol.. Benny Biceps ... I hope he doesn't over-train.
  4. I guess Beni could struggle in his first full year of the majors. Not sure it's a great comparison, Haniger vs Benintendi. Haniger is 4 years older w/ 3 more seasons of minor league ball under his belt ( his stats look promising though ). Beni has already been much more accomplished wasting zero time in the minors after winning the "Heisman equivalent of college baseball" and being ranked within the top 50 of the top 100. With that said, Haniger looks like a very nice pick-up and has a lot more pro ball experience ( that alone could payoff big time ) and was a 1st Rd pick as well. Just trying to point out the different paths these two have taken to be in the same place. It'll be fun to keep track of these two, you have me intrigued. Here's that Segura/Walker trade write-up from fangraphs: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/mariners-and-dbacks-exchange-upside-and-downside/
  5. Yeah I think we make the Playoffs with relative ease. All winter, my mind has been how well we match up after that. Left side of the infield needs to prove themselves, but on the whole I love our defense. I wouldn't put it past XB to make improvements on last season or Panda to be at the very least sufficient. Our offense has lost some power (Papi) for better defense at 1B, but I don't see a huge drop in offense. Any slight drop in offense might not amount to much of a meaningful difference. Less blow-out wins doesn't mean they aren't still wins. But for our starting rotation, it's finally quality instead of quantity don't you think?
  6. If Clay wasn't assumed to be our 7th SP, I would agree with you. I think that's why they picked up his option in the first place. Then things changed.
  7. Wright being a knuckleballer, I don't consider 32 being that old. In knuckleball years his arm is like 28.
  8. Yes, immediate perceived weakness or possible weakness. We don't know it's a weakness at all yet, true.
  9. B. The immediateweakness is the bullpen. In particular Middle Relief. I like Kelly and Ross, but I'm hoping our starters go deep enough into games that we don't have to go to the well too many times. That and with projected WAR, SP WAR we got the Guardians by some, but their BP WAR still puts their entire pitching staff ahead as a whole. I don't put all my chips in to projected WAR... but it's worth noting.
  10. If we're including '17 (which I think we should be), Betts & JBJ 4 yrs, Beni 6 yrs. I like Beni more than I liked Margot. In retrospect, and I'm fully aware of the timeline, but I think we kept the right player (we'll see over the course of their careers who's the better player). Depth-wise, it's tough when all the supposed depth are top 100 prospects and after them a steep cliff. That's sort of been the problem these past few years (Not every position, but OF is one of them). Not that I'm complaining. If we make any other trades from here on out, DD needs to ask for more players back than the one main guy he's targeted. Like, that s***'s gotta' stop.
  11. I've always been somewhat critical of Price. Was it the 2008 play-offs we faced Price(Rays) as a RP? I thought he got way too many calls go his way back then. Every pitch was 98-100+ MPH which was very impressive. But a lot of them were called strikes and were a foot off the plate. Those umps were horrid. Then years later Price's comments on Papi thinking he was "bigger than the Game". In my opinion, Papi WAS bigger than the game and maybe that was something Price should strive for. A lot of that is just plain ole competition though. I can't keep that grudge, especially sense he's on the team. Plus 2013 was some payback. 1-7 as a Starter in the post-season doesn't look great, but a few games were winnable. His post-season record could easily be 5-5 as a SP.
  12. I can neither confirm or deny who started that but it twas funny.
  13. I don't remember the Sox going to an actual arbitration hearing save for once over the last decade. It's pretty rare things get that far
  14. Bogaerts & JBJ better take care of their boy Mookie. Some surf & turf dinners may be appropriate
  15. I believe you man. I should check to see if there's a good Celtics board/thread on here. I'd like to catch up on some NBA actually, with Isiah Thomas playing like a madman. Seems like a good reason as any to start paying attention again. I'm even less of a casual fan with the NFL.
  16. LOL. I'll go out on a limb here and predict he'll have a few. you heard it here first:rolleyes:
  17. Good thing we got Chris Sale now...
  18. There's an NFL board on here?
  19. you bastard, had me worried there
  20. Smith had surgery back in late May. It's trickier for pitchers than catchers ( Vazquez for example) and I really hope they're 110% sure about him when they do bring him back.
  21. I think he meant Smith?
  22. That's the main reason I'm more optimistic. Our top 3 SP do what they're expected to do ( go deep into game). Not to mention one out of Wright, Pom, or ERod have a good to great year ( to put another way, there are reason's I don't expect all of them to fail ), that makes 4 as a whole... typically.. or more times than not. Our Starters should eat more innings than last year. After Kimbrel and Thornburg, (leaving Smith out of the equation for now), If Kelly and Ross do more of the same, we should be in good shape for the season. The play-offs vs Cleveland, that's another story. If Pom could pull a Bauer for us, that would be very helpful.
  23. That's a fair point. I guess we don't know since the 1st half (8.46)/2nd half (1.02) is identical to his SP (8.46) vs RP (1.02). Could be a little confirmation bias on my part, but I love the way he's trending as a reliever regardless. I guess we'll find out. Still, it's easier to pull a RP than a SP.
  24. "Only Kelly is returning, and how much can we expect him to be better than 1.23? Thornburg can hopefully replace Uehara, and maybe Smith can replace Ziegler's half season with us, but if Kelly does well replacing Taz, who replaces 2016's Kelly?" I thought Ross had a fine season last year and a quick glance at his numbers show he's been trending in the right direct, WHIP, H/9, SO/9, ERA, HR/9....
  25. Him starting was a small sample size too. 22+Innings Starting vs 17+ innings Relieving, there's still a 20 run difference. Does no one else think that's startling? http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=kellyjo05&year=2016&t=p#sprel_extra::none
