No Betts (& of course no XB), vs Bundy who early last year did very well against us. And we faced him A LOT!. This isn’t a fact or anything, but Sox faced Bundy 15 times in the first two months of the ‘17 season. Might be better that it did get ppd.
ERod looks great. Has actual stuff, great command of his pitches, good sequences, velocity... This O’s lineup should generally strike out a ton anyway, but Mancini a good hitter, Schoop, Jones, Machado, Beckham (might be), again good hitters.
I’m fine w/ one guy out of 9 doing that. I can handle that. But 9 guys being too patient vs a pitcher when it’s likely their BP is better than their SP.
Hear these guys talking about Sox aggressiveness at the plate and copying the Astros... I’m thinking a lot of us have been talking about a change in philosophy since before the Royals won their WS at least. Or maybe since Youk has been off the team. ???
Erod only went 3.2 innings & gave up 3 earned last time out for his first start of the season. But, dude struck-out 7... So I’d like to think something was working.
He didn’t stuggle against lefties in College, the minors, this past ST. I think his struggle last season vs lefties is a bit overblown considering it was his rookie year. He’s shown considerably less power vs lefties, sure. I’ll need about two more seasons of him struggling vs lefties for me to say he stuggles vs lefties.
Leon has better ST OPS vs LHP, but smaller sample size. I would’ve gone with Beni due to him just simply being the best hitter we had available. Plus Swihart being highly motivated without a clear role on the team. But that’s just me. Leon does seem to have more power vs LHP and perhaps that’s what Cora was looking for in that situation.
Vaz, just like most of our team, and especially last season (btw), are not veterans. They learn as they go in situations like this. I wouldn’t be too judgmental.
