  1. While he flamed out as a starter, I thought he was pretty good in the pen. I hope we bring him back next year as our long reliever (over Johnson/Velazquez/Wright)
  2. I'd still bring Porcello back for the right price. He's a workhorse and even on a "bad" year his record was a respectable 14-12. Given that Sale, Price, & Eovaldi can't seem to pitch more than half a season, someone who doesn't hit the injured list is pretty important.
  3. I vastly prefer watching the Red Sox on tv over going to Fenway Park. I feel like I spend the whole game having people shuffle back-and-forth in front of my seat and missing practically every play. It's non-stop. Then there was the time I had a pole in my way and could see home plate or the pitcher but not both.
  4. Cruising the Danube? Make sure you read Algernon Blackwood's The Willows before you go.
  5. Well that wasn't pretty, but he got the job done. Or maybe more appropriately, the Sox offense got the job done. Next stop, Sunday! The matchup looks favorable.
  6. I'm still very excited about E-Rod's chances at winning 20 games. As things stand now: 32 starts, 15 quality, 18-6 record, 191.1 innings pitched, 199 strikeouts, 1.3 WHIP and a 3.53 ERA. He pitches tonight and Sunday, so that will be 34 starts. If he pitches 5 innings in each start, he will top 200 innings pitched. Hopefully he pitches at least 6 in each and gets quality starts to at least have 50% of his starts quality. Getting to 200 strikeouts seems virtually assured. Hopefully he can lower his ERA below 3.50. The big question is will he get the 2 wins he needs to join the elite 20 win club?
  7. I watched all of LOST on Netflix though they no longer have that. Stranger Things remains great.
  8. I was going to point that out if you hadn't. He's ending the season on fire. He's lowered his ERA all the way down from the mid 4s to the mid 3s. Let's go 20 wins!!!
  9. I'm still watching the Sox every 5 days for Eduardo Rodriguez. 18 wins!!! Two starts left, if he wins both, he gets to the heralded 20 wins.
  10. I would much rather have extended Betts over Sale, that's for sure!
  11. Who's Dubon? I really don't like the Sale extension. This guy has been really badly injured since 2/3 of the way through last season and I don't see an end in sight. Maybe just watching the Cespedes, Pedroia, and Ellsbury situations has made me overly concerned about people who will never take the field again. Speaking of which, I didn't expect Price to be as injured as he's been as well. One thing after another.
  12. Sorry I thought he was fired. Did he actually leave on his own?
  13. I just think these $30 million per year contracts ultimately are just too crippling, especially for a team that needs starting pitching. Personally, I trade Mookie this offseason for pitching prospects.
  14. Yeah to be honest I've cheered most of his moves (especially extending Bogaerts). I've only had 3 quibbles: 1) I thought David Price got too nice a deal. I was glad we signed him, but I was worried that contract would become an albatross. 2) Trading Shaw for Thornburg. Didn't really matter in the end though. 3) Extending Sale. That was my one, "What are you thinking?" moment; it seemed obvious to me to wait & see how he'd do in his final year before extending him given his injured condition. I suppose DD also got fired for the moves he didn't make.
  15. I found this comment hilarious. You made my day.
  16. I don't think we should pay Betts more than Bogey, which means we will lose Betts if I were the GM.
  17. As E-Rod (and a few others) close in on 20 wins, I thought I'd see what MLB team has had the biggest drought in having a 20 game winner on its staff. It looks like the winner is ... the Padres. Back in 1978, Gaylord Perry won 21 games. And they haven't had a 20 game winner since. Jake Peavy won 19 in 2007; close but no cigar!
  18. I wouldn't, when you consider that the innings lost from Porcello would have to be picked up by, I guess, Velazquez.
  19. Even this year, Porcello is our 2nd best starter, which admittedly isn't saying much.
  20. I think Eovaldi blew out his arm for the Sox in 2018. I'm excited for E-Rod to get 20+ wins, but I mainly want him ready to go for 2020.
  21. Ugh. Don't remind me. So embarrassing!
  22. I watched until the bitter end last night and found it soul-crushing. However, tonight is ERod night, and I'm excited for his Quest For 20 Wins.
  23. Guys, we've got this. I predict we win 7-6.
  24. In order for this team to go 20-5, Price & Eovaldi suddenly have to start giving us Quality Starts, Porcello & E-Rod have to maintain them, and we have to have enough off-days to allow for a four man rotation most of the time. I do believe our offense is capable of such a run.
  25. Since your post on 8/20 ... 8/21 he went 5 innings allowed 3 runs in a loss. 8/27 he went 5 innings allowed 2 runs in a win. Fingers crossed for a great start tonight! Lifetime stats question: Why is he listed at -0.2 WAR for 2017? I get that 11-17 is a losing record, but the guy contributed 203.1 innings that year at a 4.65 ERA which is far from worthless.
