  1. That's cool! I wonder how many of his 93 RBIs are Mookie Betts.
  2. Today Rafael Devers took over the AL RBI lead! http://village.photos/images/user/e757e3f7-e1e2-4d25-8832-1290825314d9/553c0e3d-650a-4c26-8570-8ce1f446d021.png He's also the hits leader, and tied for 1st in doubles.
  3. Sorry for your loss.
  4. You're probably right; I don't recall his contract details, but despite missing half of 2001 he was great.
  5. I went to sleep before the game was even tied up. When I woke up and saw they'd lost, my first thought was, "I bet Walden blew it. He's due." Just that kind of year, yeah.
  6. When you look back at the history of Red Sox 4+ year signings or extensions, it's amazing how few were worth it. Manny Ramirez was, but we still had to ship him off before it completed. Johnny Damon had a great 4 years here. Anybody else?
  7. Definitely. Also, I like the mantra, "No free agent or extension deal longer than 3 years." To that I'd add, "No multi-year extensions on someone who ends a year on a down or injured note."
  8. Looking at his numbers now. Actually the season to take out is 2018. OPS .812, .820, .897, .803, and currently .870. I suppose this is who he is. I was hoping last year would become a new normal
  9. It sure did! Wow. I was hoping he'd get the shutout, but then again, seeing a dominant Workman close out the game was also a sight for sore eyes. Makes me think that if we somehow get to the Wild Card game, if we can throw Sale & Workman at the opposing team, we have a strong chance. Now I'd like to see Betts start hitting...
  10. Isn't Sam Travis being groomed for 1B?
  11. This makes me feel much more optimistic about the future. Thanks for the detailed analysis. You should write the On Baseball column for the Sunday Globe.
  12. None of us would have done any differently. When a team wants to throw millions of dollars more money at you than anybody else, you take it. Conversely, Nomar was a fool for turning down the $60 million extension from the Sox.
  13. Brandon Workman has a 1.95 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 12.3 strikeouts per 9 innings pitched. They'd be crazy not to take him. For instance, Hector Rondon has a 4.14 ERA and 1.35 WHIP.
  14. Even just watching the games has told me the starters are the bigger problem; no need for careful analysis. It feels like every game they dig a hole for us and exit early. Let's hope tonight is different with ERod on the mound.
  15. It's the starters. Interestingly, earlier in the year relievers like Brasier and Barnes and Walden were doing fantastic. I think they just got overworked because the starters couldn't even go 5 reliably.
  16. Why oh why did they have to change the ball? Why won't they own up to it? If the game becomes just about power pitchers because other pitches don't "work", baseball will be boring. Splits and curves and knucklers are the best pitches in my book.
  17. I'm so impressed with how much better Devers is on both offense and defense this year. He must have worked hard in the offseason. Given how other teammates spent their offseasons, kudos to him.
  18. Ah, I see. I'd be really sad to lose Workman, our only bona fide reliever, so hopefully they work something out.
  19. I'd add Workman to that group.
  20. I was just thinking that if the Sox had been trying to stay strong going forwards, they wouldn't have traded Beeks for Eovaldi. But I doubt they win it all without Eovaldi last year.
  21. If we do trade Betts, is there a cheap free agent outfielder we can pick up to replace him?
  22. Wow I forgot! Still, I don't know if the team we traded him to gave him what he needed in his minor league training to excel or not.
  23. Clay was like Sale could never pitch a full season. It just seems to me that since I've been following the Sox (mid 80s), rotation mainstays have rarely come from the farm system. Roger Clemens, Aaron Sele, Jon Lester are the names that come to mind that could be counted on. Everyone else who were good starters for us were imported like Lowe, Wakefield, Pedro, Schilling, Saberhagen, or only lasted a short time like Felix Doubront.
  24. Thought for the day. The Red Sox have historically stunk at producing starting pitchers, and now it's really caught up to them. It's mind boggling how many starters have flamed out for the Sox since Jon Lester. Henry Owens, Anthony Ranaudo, today's crop of Johnson & Velazquez, I could probably list a dozen more, what is wrong with our farm system?
