  1. Do I have the right Josh Lindblom? Pitched 2014 for Oakland in 4.2 innings, and 2017 for Pittsburgh 10.1 innings. But when you say "35-7 mark over the past two seasons" it must be someone else.
  2. I've never looked at Danny Salazar before. Lemme see... 2017 CLE, 19 starts, 5-6 win-loss, 4.28 ERA 2018 did not play 2019 CLE, 1 start, 0-1 win-loss, 4.50 ERA I'm not seeing the upside...
  3. Wade Miley last 3 seasons 2017 BAL, 32 starts, 8-15 win-loss, 5.61 ERA 2018 MIL, 16 starts, 5-2 win-loss, 2.57 ERA 2019 HOU, 33 starts, 14-6 win-loss, 3.98 ERA A tempting roll of the dice ...
  4. When we jettisoned Beckett and Crawford, we had to give up Gonzalez. If we want to get rid of Sale, Price, and Eovaldi, then E-Rod, JD, Workman, Devers, and Bogaerts will have to be shopped with them. Betts may end up being the ONLY star we're left with ...
  5. Exactly my thoughts now and at the time. Wasn't the Sale extension a contributing factor to getting DD fired?
  6. I suspect Price is untradeable. JD, maybe? I know the White Sox want him.
  7. Sure we have, but I'm still in the camp that says when your starter can't pitch most of August & September and is ineffective in the post-season except for one bullpen appearance, and you have another year to evaluate him, you take the year to evaluate him. I thought the extension was a poor idea from the start. Bogaerts, on the other hand, was a fantastic extension.
  8. I really, really can't believe DD extended Chris Sale. What was he thinking??? Reminds me of when we extended Beckett. At least Pedroia's extension was understandable.
  9. I think in the years to come we will find his contract is a steal.
  10. If I'm a rival GM, and I know the Sox are dying to unload Price and Eovaldi, I'd ask for those two *plus* E-Rod and Bogaerts, and in exchange I'd offer a decent starter, a decent outfielder, and a decent shortstop, all of whom are low cost. Would any of you do that deal?
  11. If they do change the ball back, I bet Porcello is effective again.
  12. In all fairness, it's not my money so I'm not concerned with going over the luxury tax.
  13. If Sale "seems" healthy, I say go for it in 2020. But if we stink, have a fire sale at the trade deadline.
  14. I see your point. I hope ownership realizes one last championship with this core is within their grasp. Of course for that to happen, Sale needs to actually be Sale, so we'll have an idea after his checkup on the 15th.
  15. The Sox need a starter. If we're giving it one last go in 2020 like I hope we do by keeping Betts & JD and hoping the Sale/Price/Eovaldi trio returns to form, then rounding out the rotation with a 1 year starter makes sense (Rich Hill, Wacha, bring Porcello back on an incentive-laden deal, etc.). Ideally we win one more championship, then I see Betts riding off into the sunset for larger dollars elsewhere, JD opting out, Workman's gone, etc.
  16. I think a Wade Miley reprise is in order.
  17. I've said it before, but I think it's worth repeating. Overpaying one guy on a 25 man roster is a disaster, unless ownership doesn't care about the luxury tax. If we pay Mookie $30 million plus, we'll never win, because the rest of the roster will suck. Unless we trade Price. But if I'm another MLB team, I only take Price if you also give me Bogaerts and E-Rod.
  18. Let's say the Sox keep Betts this off-season and we go into the season with the team as it is. And let's say by the trading deadline we're doing great. I'd say keep Betts and try to get a championship, even if he then walks after the year ends and we don't get anything for him.
  19. Heh, trade Betts, trade JDM, sign Strasburg
  20. Of course he should, but I've got a bad feeling this doesn't get resolved until Sale actually starts trying to pitch in Spring Training games.
  21. All well said. I used to be inclined to say pay more for starting pitchers than fielders, but with the way Sale/Price/Eovaldi have broken down, I just don't know who's worth the money any more. But that Scherzer guy, I still don't know why we didn't go after him when we had the chance!
  22. I still think the way this plays out is that he doesn't get the TJ surgery until the very end of spring training, just you know to maximize the time he'll miss...
  23. Alternately we get one more glorious year of both of them in our lineup. If we aren't contending by the trade deadline, then trade Mookie. If we are, then hope for a championship before he sails off somewhere else.
  24. I think he would have opted out already. I think he's staying. That's my prediction.
  25. If we can get a quality starting pitcher in return, yes.
