  1. Best. Trade. Ever. The Mariners were true idiots.
  2. I would throw in Heathcliff Slocumb if we still had him as well.
  3. He's long gone now. I've accepted it.
  4. Game over, man!
  5. Well, it's not your money or my money. If it doesn't have a ripple effect of making them trade Mookie, I'm happy with a Porcello reunion.
  6. Oh I was teasing. But seriously, maybe JBJ should start spring training, um, now?
  7. I stand corrected. In that case he takes his first at bat on May 19th.
  8. Here's what I think has to go our way: 1. E-Rod continues to perform like a 20 win starter. 2. The offensive core of Betts / JD / Devers / Bogaerts has to perform like it has the past two years (which guys are hot doesn't matter as much; it seems to average out). 3. Sale, Price, and Eovaldi overall make at least 80 starts and pitch to a decent 4.00 ERA 4. The 5th starter ends up being a pleasant surprise. 5. The bullpen really only needs one more effective arm than it had last year to make a big difference. 6. The first and second base options are strong on defense and are decent bottom of the order contributors. 7. JBJ, if he's still here, doesn't get to play until like July except as a defensive replacement.
  9. I love our offense.
  10. Agreed on '13. But I did expect the Sox to win in 2018 once they signed JD Martinez. I also was very hopeful the 2004 team could push past where the 2003 got to. I thought they were the favorites going into the ALCS with the Yankees; it was only once they were down 0-3 that they became underdogs. Before 2007 started I didn't know they'd be that good.
  11. The real question in my mind is of the 4 recent Red Sox World Series winning teams, which ones represent strategic roster building that we can attempt to duplicate now? I'm still trying to figure out if the 2013 team assembly was the work of genius or just dumb luck.
  12. Oh wow, you found it! Awesome. That's right, Buhner hit a home run, as did Mike Benjamin of all people.
  13. Ah no you don't. Don't rob my young adulthood. I went to this game in '98 I think. Avery starting against the Mariners. It was the Greatest Game of All Time. Ken Griffey Jr. shocked everyone at Fenway by bunting. Bunt went down the first base line. Avery runs over to scoop it up. Uses his left hand to toss it to first base and just barely beats Griffey. Not too many other pitchers could have made that play. Avery goes 5 innings, but shuts the Mariners down. We of course end up winning with a Nomar grand slam after a Tom Gordon appearance. All the players in that game, so epic. We all stayed standing after the game ended chanting MVP! MVP! to Nomar.
  14. A reminder that Eovaldi has tremendous upside if he can stay healthy and harness his good stuff. I'm still hopeful he will amaze us.
  15. I'm still expecting him to have Tommy John surgery at the end of spring training, or after about 3 starts.
  16. 2004 Doug Mientkiewicz taught me that exceptional 1B defense can make a real difference. He only hit .215 for us but was a contributor.
  17. I'm a firm believer that if you can play 3B, you can learn to play 1B. So why not have Dalbec train at first in spring training?
  18. To be fair, those are 90s gripes on those players, not 80s.
  19. Alas, the reincarnation of Kason Gabbard is now gone too. But we still have Hector Velazquez. Maybe he and Brasier can be somewhere between their 2018 and 2019 selves.
  20. I used to really enjoy the Hot Stove season. In years past, right about now there would be lots of talk, and the signings would start this coming weekend. Now we have to wait until January.
  21. But these are guys that were already in the system, right? They just moved them onto the 40 man roster. No one was actually acquired. Ok, I guess I didn't miss anything.
  22. So, have the Sox made any moves at all yet? Just checking I didn't miss anything.
  23. To be fair, Ellsbury didn't actually "play" for the Yankees. Just collected paychecks
  24. That's true; his WHIP was only 1.09 far better than E-Rod's 1.33, yet somehow E-Rod managed a 3.81 ERA and Sale a 4.40 ERA. It looks like Sale succumbed to the home run ball; both he and E-Rod gave up 24 yet E-Rod had 203 innings to Sale's 147. But I'm less worried about Sale's performance on the field and more worried about the amount of time he spends on the field. 2016 - 226.2 innings 2017 - 214.1 innings 2018 - 158.0 innings 2019 - 147.1 innings It's trending downwards. We can extrapolate to say 125 innings next year.
  25. Sorry. I do have some optimism for Eovaldi if it helps.
