    That's my concern; he'll probably ask $30 million a year.

    Agreed. He's a wonderful player, but Marco Hernandez and Tzu-Wei Lin are of a similar vein and are far younger.

    I've simply moved on to show B: rooting for individual statistics. There's still lots of fun in that.

    I still think 2B-1B is going to be a 3 man platoon of Hernandez, Chavis, and Travis. If Dalbec and Ockimey make it interesting that's fine too.

    There's a feeling on a championship team that they'll find a way to win, and you are disappointed when they lose. We've had championship feeling teams that didn't actually win a championship; 1995 and 2003 for instance. Last year's team had it in spades; people are going to worry of course but that doesn't take away from the fact that the team inspired hope every game. 2013 definitely had that swagger as well. I was one of the pessimists then too but they definitely had that 'it'.

    We have other threads called “Realistic View” so that we can be honest about their chances. This team hasn’t felt like a champion all year.

    Travis Shaw is the latest Will Middlebrooks. I guess some guys only have a couple good years in them.

    Clearly we've all learned now that free agent contracts & extensions to players over 30 rarely pays off. For every Jon Lester or Max Scherzer, there's a dozen aging players like - yes, Sale, Price, & Pedroia - who can't possibly live up to the value of those contracts. This leaves big spenders in a bind, as players rarely become free agents much earlier than that, thus the importance of the farm system.

    David Price's next start means a LOT I think. We could use a reliable quality start starter.

    Price, Sale, and Eovaldi really do need to provide significant ROI over the next few years for us to compete, I agree.

    I wouldn't want to share a foxhole with me either, but where is your optimism coming from?

    Eovaldi and Johnson are still in the starting rotation, and neither are effective. I don't even know who the 5th starter is right now.

    If our starters were firing on all cylinders, I'd be more optimistic, but right now we have E-Rod and Porcello and that's it.

    Those are very cool numbers! Remaining E-Rod starts projection: 8/28 9/3 9/8 9/14 9/19 9/24 9/29 That's 7 starts left by my count. At 15 wins, he has an outside chance of 20 wins, and an excellent chance for 18 wins.     Part of me thinks that Cora has too quick of a hook on Johnson. The other part of me thinks that even if that's the case, if we aren't replacing Cora, then give Cora a pitcher he'll have more faith to leave in longer. It's a real bummer that Wright was never able to return to the rotation.

    I think there's a lot of good reasons to hope. Sale I'm already expecting the Tommy John announcement in spring training or a few weeks into the season, but Price and Eovaldi I am optimistic will have much better years next year, just by virtue of doing the right things over the offseason to be in better shape.

Brandon has had a phenomenal year and has only recently taken over the closer's role.

    I'm at the point in the season now where I only care about ERod starts. He has an outside shot of making 20, but even making 18 would be wonderful. Other than that, I'm watching the RBI and batting races, and that's about it.

    I think the Yankees have a solid chance this year. You may end up eating those words.
