    I'd like to think that, but I'm cynical when comes to what motivates players. I think it's self-preservation, mostly.

    Yup, everyone agrees that the back of the rotation is crap and something needs to be done about it. DD either thinks the problem will fix itself, or there simply isn't a starter available at a reasonable price. Anyone want to pick up a #3-4 starter for Betts or Bogearts? It's another 3 weeks until negotiations for pitching get serious. What no one seems to want to aknowledge is in the meantime, our "ace" had better start pitching like one, or we'll be so far out of the race, we may as well be sellers at the deadline. Porcello is pitching to expectations, Wright is pitching much better than expected. If either of those two stumble, we are screwed, without Price.

    Are you positive it was Lovullo they were playing their asses off for, or new boss Dombrowski, the guy that pretty much has their careers in his hands?

    Farrel and Buchh are both gone after this year, so what's the problem?

    Yup, it would've been nice if the rotation had picked it up a little, to compensate for the inevitable decline in offense. The pitching hasn't really improved and the offense has fallen off a cliff.

    "Better bets" isn't going to win this team s*** this year. Buchholz is the easier player to replace. But, not right now. Either DD is finding the asking price for a replacement #5 guy is too high, or he's a complete idiot.

    I guess it's possinble, but I don't think that's it. He did well in Toronto last year during a playoff run. Granted, Toronto isn't boston, but a division race and p,layoff appearances are no picnics. I think it's his mechanics. He seems to be having a tough time being consistent. If he can't fix it and become the stopper this team desperates needs, you can DFA Buchh and fire Farrell and it wont make a bit of difference.

    Yup, it's about time a pitcher put a stop to the "let's spot them 2 runs in the 1st" crap. Good games by Shaw and Hanley too. Both of those guys need to get it going. Shaw has looked better but Hanley still has a ways to go. And yes, I know "it's the Rays and they suck", but when you're in a funk as bad as the Sox were, you have to start with the team that's in front of you. The good news is they play them again in 10 days, back in Fenway.

    It's not an either/or situation. They both suck and are causing problems for this team right now. DFAing or benching Buchholz would be stupid right now because there are no better options. Price still gives you a chubby? Good for you.

    Well, we all know the 2013 team was just lucky. The 2016 team ran out of luck a tad early.

    Yup, there's no point in overpaying for pitching help, if every one in the current rotation is going to spot teams a 3 run lead at the start of every game.

    Despite popular opinon, it can get worse than 5.1 IP, 5 R (4 ER). And I'm not even referring to last night's diaster. How about 2.1 IP, 6 ER 12 hits from the highest paid pitcher in baseball?
