  1. The entire pen was overused, thanks to lousy starting pitching.
  2. Agreed. That's probably the reason for the trade for Ziegler. You use Koji as you have to use him. If it does work, for whatever reason, you put Ziegler in there. As for last night, I wouldn't be surprised if Koji told Farrell he wanted a little work.
  3. I can't do that. I'll just take it as a win, no matter who loses.
  4. Agree. It's a shame that Manny's time in Boston ended the way it did and he had to go. But, a Manny at bat was a can't miss at bat during his time with the Sox.
  5. Yup, the Sox waited to see what there most pressing needs would be, as the season progressed. The back end of the rotation collapsed, but the Sox were strong enough in other areas to stay in contention. If Pomeranz And Zeigler turn out to be solid contributers, the Sox got it right.
  6. Agreed that run support hosed the Sox last night. But, do Kershaw and Bumgarner generally give up 11 hits in 5-2/3 and have their ERA's actually rise, during these losses? Great pitchers all have games they rather forget about, but Price has had his share and the shares of one or two other pitchers this season. That's a concern, IMO.
  7. Do I detect a hint of sarcasm there? If the stories are true about the A's asking for Espinoza, to aquire Hill, the Sox made the right move with Pomeranz. Pomeranz has durablity issues, but Hill seems to be hurt every 3 weeks.
  8. Yup, I was thinking the same thing. They didn't have a very good approach at the plate last night. They'd get behind in the count and end up swinging at a slider or splitter out of the zone. A frustrating game to watch. They should've been a little more agressve.
  9. Yup. I hope that doesn't make us "whiners".
  10. Porcello has also pitched a dozen games in Fenway, Camden Yards and the Rogers Centre. I'll be impressed if Pomeranz does as well in those venues.
  11. That's because the 2013 team was lucky.
  12. That's the name of the game. Winning a WS would take a lot of the sting out of losing Espinoza.
  13. What does a tabloid outfit like Fangraphs know?
  14. I'm sure the Four Horsemen will have no trouble keeping it going.
  15. This. Looks like another overpay, but if Pomeranz doesn't hit the wall, innings-wise and his numbers aren't propped up by west coast venues, this should get the sox the division. I guess we'll know by Oct if DD knows what he's doing.
  16. I'm already seeing a "clever" nickname for Pomeranz, should he bomb in boston.
  17. I don't think so, but, evidently those two think it is. Bastids.
  18. Now, what fun would winning the division "comfortably" be? Dog fights to the bitter end are a lot more fun! Getting a 4th starter would help, but I don't see a decent field of pitchers to pick from. There are a few, but there are also other teams that are looking for pitching help. It's supply and demand and I don't want the Sox paying a premium price to just somewhat improve their chances of getting to the playoffs.
  19. Got that right! As for your second sentence;
