  1. I usually agree with Merloni, but not in this case. There was a reason why Bloom was hired, and it was not to go all out to win in any single year.
  2. The verdict is still out on Schwarber. Regardless, the moves made in both the offseason and at the deadline were good in the sense that we have a very competitive team, while rebuilding. Bloom did not panic or give in to popular opinion. It would have been a bad move to divert from the long term plan. It stinks that our rough patch coincided with the trade deadline, but that's all it is, a coincidence.
  3. Dombrowski did very well with the JD signing.
  4. You are talking crazy now MVP.
  5. My, how opinions change so quickly. This team was the best team in the AL until about 3 weeks ago. Last offseason was good. The trade deadline was good. As Kevin Cash says, trust in Bloom's process. He knows what he is doing.
  6. I'm not ruling it out, but I think it will be tough to overcome the Rays. They just don't lose anymore. Before the ASB, the team had more comeback wins than any other team. At the moment, I don't have a lot of confidence in them being able to come back in games from about the 5th inning on. The offense has to get its mojo back. And they will.
  7. That's an indictment on the way pitching is trending in baseball. This tweet is from a couple of days ago. Stats By STATS @statsbystats · 1h The longest start in the majors today was 6.0 innings. This is the first time in MLB history that every team was in action on a given day and no starter pitched more than 6.0 innings.
  8. As I have said, I think the lack of offense has been a bigger issue than our pitching, not that our pitching has been great (although our starters have been pretty good for the past week or so.) It's tough to win games when you're only scoring 1, 2, or 3 runs.
  9. Tough times, but you have to keep the faith. This is more or less the same team that played before the ASB.
  10. Thank goodness the White Sox came back and won that game. All in all, I thought it was a pretty cool thing.
  11. The first time I heard about this rule, I thought it was the stupidest thing I ever heard of. After seeing it in 2020, I wasn't in favor of the rule, but I didn't hate the idea as much. However, after seeing it in play for a bit longer, I am back to hating the rule. Same with the 7 inning double headers.
  12. I'm not talking about the # of players on the IL. In that respect, the Yankees have been rather unfortunate. I'm talking about run differential and your record in 1-run games versus your record in blowout games.
  13. Also, the notion of "line up protection" is mostly false.
  14. Thinking that Jeter was a good defender is exactly why you have to trust the math. When the math very strongly suggests that something is or isn't, I find it very hard to deny what the math is saying.
  15. I 100% agree with this statement.
  16. For so many years, baseball people have accepted their beliefs as fact, mostly because that's the way it's always been. To be fair to the analytic people, they are not out to prove or disprove anything. They are out to find answers. If the players, managers, and coaches are right, the geeks would be more than happy to confirm those beliefs.
  17. The data that you posted is anecdotal because there is no statistical significance to it.
  18. And leaves the team in shambles? It's really not that difficult to pay high prices for coveted players. I could do that.
  19. The Jays are a great offensive team. They are never out of a game that is within 5 runs. Have to give them credit. And credit to Barnes for accepting 100% responsibility for the loss, even though the loss was not 100% on him.
  20. No need to argue. The answers are no and no.
  21. It's been a tough couple of weeks for Red Sox fans, to state the obvious. Things will get better very soon though. Our rotation will be improved and the offense is not going to continue stinking like it has been. Brighter days are ahead!
  22. The Yankees are playing like the Sox did prior to the ASB, and the Sox are playing like the Yankees did. The Red Sox luck was bound to catch up with the team, though the team is not nearly as bad as they've played recently. The Yankees remain forever lucky.
  23. I will not argue that possibility.
