  1. If Buchholz gets injured, the problem would not be with picking up his option, the problem would be with not having a solid plan B. That said, I think the FO probably felt that at worst, having Clay gives guys like Owens and Johnson some time to develop in AAA.
  2. Price is one of the best in the game. I get all that Bell. I understand the frustration with Buchholz. I get frustrated with him myself. But $13 mil for a one year deal? Clay was worth $20.8, $11.1, and $25.3 over the last 3 years. That is virtually no risk for a very good possibility of high reward. How can that be a bad deal?
  3. Is it quite possible that he really can't help himself? Do you blame people with depression for being depressed?
  4. Here are some quotes from someone who specializes in eating disorders: Pablo may or may not be a binge order, but the fact is, none of knows for sure.
  5. Pablo made a good point in one of his statements yesterday about fat kids being bullied. I think for me, that's the crux of my issues with all the ridicule and bullying of Pablo.
  6. I had not heard that, but the point is we really don't know what is going on with Pablo. I am not going to assume the worst about him.
  7. What completely boggles my mind is how people said that picking up Clay's option for $13 mil is a bad deal and not worth it but paying Price $31 mil a year for 7 years is a good deal. I realize that Clay is not David Price, but all things are relative.
  8. Hi southpaw. It's good to see you. As you know, I was not a fan of the moderating job at BDC, but I've always been a fan of your posting. I hope you'll stick around and get the chance to post more often. No hard feelings.
  9. Price's pace yesterday was maddening, very Buchholz like. I agree completely. I just hope it doesn't take too many more games for him to figure it out.
  10. Your last sentence pretty much sums it up. It's too early to make any judgments on which contract will be more valuable. When Cano signed his contract, I and pretty much everyone on the planet said it was ludicrous. It would be hypocritical of me to say Price's contract is not crazy. I'm very happy to have Price on the team, even with his slow start, but I was against that contract from day one. Then again, I am against pretty much any long-term contract.
  11. No bets. I always lose and end up jinxing my team in the process. Just optimism.
  12. Nice thread Gringo. Ortiz' accomplishments and great moments on and off the field are too numerous to possibly give him his due. I know I will enjoy reading what others have to say about him. A very recent incident sums up nicely the kind of person Ortiz is. After the awful strike 3 call on Friday night, with Oritz being obviously irate, he saw two NYC cops on the street. Ortiz smiled and shook both their hands. A very small gesture, but I'm sure it meant a lot to the officers.
  13. I don't think I have EVER seen a post removed at this site. Just sayin'.
  14. Coming from a forum where the moderators were suffocating and biased, among other things, the moderating here is a breath of fresh air. Trust me when I say that YOTN is not trying to stifle anyone's opinions or creativity. He is more than fair when issuing warnings or banning people, and to my knowledge, he has not threatened any new members with being banned. I am not particularly a fan of some of the crude language that is used here. However, it is something I'm very willing to put up with rather than have the board go to the other extreme. I have heard a couple of references to the moderating on this forum being "strict". That is not the case at all. You all know how out of hand the new threads could get at BDC. YOTN is not telling anyone that he/she can't start a new thread, just to see if your "idea" could perhaps be stated in an existing thread. It really does help keep the clutter down and to keep the ongoing conversations easier to follow.
  15. Happy early Birthday Youk! The Sox are not getting swept this weekend. They got this! Go Sox!
  16. Not a Mets or a Colon fan, but as a baseball fan, I really enjoyed that. What a great moment.
  17. The parts that I bolded above are speculation on your part. Saying he didn't do his job this offseason to get into condition is one thing. Once you call him lazy, deceptive, etc., you are attacking his character based on your perception. By all accounts from people who actually know him, he's a very hard worker. I don't believe that he doesn't care or that he has no professional pride. Losing weight and keeping it off is much easier said than done. If it were that easy, I don't think anyone would choose to endure the ridicule and the stigma of being fat.
  18. A+ post YOTN.
  19. I do not disagree that Pablo's contract was a bad one. I do not believe that Pablo does not care. Honestly. I think he has a serious eating disorder. Is he at fault for not getting help for it? OK, I can agree with that. But calling him a POS and such is unwarranted.
  20. It's been such a let down, coming off a big series win in Chicago, to losing a series to a team that has been playing so horribly, especially when you have 2 of your (supposed) best starting pitchers pitching. We'll win tomorrow.
  21. Farrell and Price both insist that this is not health related. I certainly hope that it's the cold weather and not a decline in velocity due to age.
  22. I think this probably has more to do with the relievers having the mentality of an "expected role" than anything else. But for whatever reason, managers don't typically bring their closers into tie games on the road. That has always baffled me because sometimes the "close" situation that the manager is saving for the closer never ends up happening.
  23. Betts was bunting on his own last night. I can understand why he would, since he had been scuffling a bit and because he has the speed to bunt for a hit. But I agree with you completely on the sac bunt issue. I've been tracking the team's sac bunts / attempts this season. So far, Farrell is doing a very good job of not misusing it. Here is what Farrell had to say about Mookie's attempted sac bunt, which is refreshing.
  24. Travis Shaw, followed by Hanley's defensive play, followed by Wright.
