  1. It would have been nice for Papi to win another ring, but regardless, he is a champion and he went out on top. The Sox won the division, a very good division I might add, so all of the stuff you're saying about them not being a championship team or not having what it takes is garbage. The playoffs are a crap shoot. Anything can and does happen in a short series. It has nothing to do with a team not having what it takes. If they didn't have what it takes, they wouldn't have made it to the playoffs to begin with.
  2. They really should outlaw games that start after 7:00 p.m. Either that or outlaw jobs that start before 10:00 a.m.
  3. LOL Either way, we would be playing tomorrow! But seriously, it's disappointing right now, but you just tip your hat to a team that outplayed us this series, and think about how great our team played most of the season. Nothing to hang your heads about boys! Here's to rooting for an Guardians/Cubs World Series.
  4. Yup. I know he's disappointed right now, but he should look back on this season and his entire career with pride, enjoyment, and happiness. He went out on top.
  5. Panda would have walked off there.
  6. In do or die situations, the impact becomes larger. However, the win expectancy difference, before the inning occurs, between bringing in Jimenez versus Britton is not as large as you would think. On top of that, think of all the other plays and decisions that occurred throughout the course of the game. The outcome of the game cannot be pinned on that one decision.
  7. I would hate to give up JBJ or any of our young players, but if we could get back a young, cost controlled, #1 pitcher for a somewhat reasonable package, I think we have to make the move. Signing an aging free agent pitcher to a large contract is not, and has never been, the way to go.
  8. Absolutely. IMO, he's the GOAT even if the Cubs don't win it all.
  9. Dan gets his share of the credit for 2004. FTR, Theo gets a great deal of credit for the Sox for this year. His acquired players are responsible for more team WAR than either Ben's or Dave's. Ben gets credit for not trading away some of Theo's draftees. Dombrowski is getting a lot of credit by most for putting the Sox back into the playoffs, but really, the team was already mostly there. Henry and the fans just needed to be a bit more patient.
  10. Buchholz will be on a short leash. First sign of trouble, he will be pulled. But I think he will get it done.
  11. He does. But I'll never forget his post game interview after the 2013 World Series when he said he thought he was going to puke on the mound. LOL
  12. I don't disagree with that. I've always felt that the real 'save' situation in a game often comes in the 7th or 8th inning, and that a closer should be brought into those situations, if necessary. My point is that blaming the loss on Showalter, and mind you, I can't stand the guy, is unfair. While it seems like a bad decision to most of us, it's really only bad in hindsight. Before the inning, the effect of the decision was very small. I know that statement is not going to go over well.
  13. I don't disagree with what you're saying. One of the things that is so great about Koji is that he rarely walks anyone.
  14. If Britton had been brought in earlier, then the Os managed to take the lead, then Ubaldo was needed to close the game and blew it, Buck would have been criticized for not saving Britton for the close situation. I think that Britton should have been brought into the game once Ubaldo had a 1st and 3rd situation, but as you said, there is far too much blame and weight being put on that one decision.
  15. It's a love-hate relationship with Jacko. I just keep reminding myself of why Yankees fans want to spend all their time on a Red Sox board. We are way cooler and far less annoying than they are.
  16. I also thought the Jays would win the division and the Sox win the first wildcard. I will be very disappointed if the Sox are eliminated, but I can't call this season a failure. The goal is to make it to the playoffs, then take your chances in the crap shoot of the postseason. The Sox won the division and gave themselves a real chance at another ring. It's all good.
  17. Dojji is on a roll! I agree 100%.
  18. I know what you mean about not coming around when things are going bad. It's enough to make me want to stay away too. That said, I feel compelled to come here to defend my team. I can't let people get away with some of the crap they post.
  19. You're right, most closers have big egos. That does not necessarily equate to being a 'problem' if taken out of that role. If management handles the situation properly, as they did with Koji being supplanted by Kimbrel, then there should be no issues. This is where a manager's role has its importance. I still think Kimbrel will be a great closer. I would not be opposed to Koji finishing out the season as closer, but I think it would be unwise to give up on Kimbrel in that role.
  20. Well, I wouldn't want my closer to have any different a mentality. Lackey was the exact same way, and he got criticized all the time for showing up the manager and his teammates. He wasn't a clubhouse cancer or a bad teammate. He was just highly competitive and fiery, and there is nothing wrong with that. Kimbrel may or may not 'pout' if he is taken out of the closer's role. I would expect him to not be happy, but I would also expect him to be a good teammate and do what's asked of him. In the meantime, I think it's unfair to assume that he'd become a problem for the team if that happened.
  21. I'm sure his preference would be to remain the closer, but that's not the same thing as him being a pouter. He can be disappointed in a move, and still be a great and effective teammate.
  22. Dude's a baseball genius. Overpaid, but still a genius.
  23. Did you see the pictures of Theo wearing a fake mustache at Wrigley Field? I guess he was trying to disguise himself so that he wouldn't be recognized.
  24. So why do you think that the Jays are up 2-0 over the Rangers if home field advantage is so important.
