  1. I'm not so sure about that. There are a lot of other things that would have to happen, like Castillo playing very well and the team having an opening for him, but if the situation arises next year where Castillo could help the team, I don't think the FO would mind going over the tax limit if they reset this year.
  2. Who's Monday morning quarterbacking? FTR, I have always been against large contracts, but even with that being the case, my previous posts were not an attempt to criticize Dombrowski for signing Price. Price was the best starter available and we needed a #1 starter. Price not pitching up to expectations, even though he was still very good, is not Dombrowski's fault. And I will say again that we won the division mostly because of the foundation that was already in place from Theo and Ben. Dombrowski stepped in and is reaping the benefits of the hard work of his predecessors.
  3. No doubt that Price was more valuable than Buchholz was last year. However, you're trying to compare a one year deal against a 7 year deal after only one year. It doesn't work like that. Without the benefit of hindsight, I still can't agree with the idea that Price for 7 yrs/$217 million is a good contract but Buchholz for 1 yr/$13 million is a bad one.

    Golf

Well I'm glad you have attractive golfers to look at to make the sport more enjoyable. Believe it or not, I can get into golf when I have the time and decide to sit down and watch it. It's been a while since I've watched though. I enjoyed it when I did.

    For you.
  6. It's really a shame about the position that Castillo is in. I can't see him being able to work his way onto the 40 man roster this year. Maybe next year. At any rate, Castillo has a lot more to do to prove himself deserving of even being considered. I am encouraged by Alex Cora's perception of Castillo's outlook and attitude. I am pulling for the guy.
  7. From the file marked 'Thank you Mr. Wright': Wright was upset about the public bashing of manager John Farrell for his decision to pinch-run Wright, which led to the All-Star pitcher missing the final month of the regular season and the playoffs. “I wish people would stop blaming John for that. I was actually excited he called my name for that role,” Wright said. “I was completely prepared for it. . . . I went through all my checkpoints. I told myself I was going to be aggressive and I got caught. That’s my fault. I landed wrong on my shoulder. That’s nobody’s fault. I could have been hurt stepping out of the shower. I could have been hurt if I had reached base the day I pitched two days before. I don’t know why people have to blame someone. It’s baseball.” People need to seriously stop blaming Farrell for Wright's injury.
  8. I realize that and I understand that. But IIRC, these discussions were specifically about the monetary aspects of the contracts.
  9. There isn't, and so the easy thing to do is to call him a choker. Or in the other extreme, to call someone like Papi clutch. It is quite possible that Price has let the postseason choke thing get in his head, but it's also quite possible that is nothing more than randomness.
  10. I have been fairly critical of Price's lack of 'aceness', but no one deserves to have racial slurs thrown at them. Shame on any fans who would do such a thing. On another note in the same article, it sounds like Price is committed to finishing out his contract with the Sox, choosing not to opt out. Of course, that could always change in the next two years, but I found it interesting that he would make such a comment. We need to really hope that Price does not stink and become an albatross.
  11. As I have said before, I am a worrier (not by choice), but Price is not on my list of things to worry about. Porcello will almost definitely regress from last year's performance, but I agree that he will be closer to 2016 than to 2015. I am not worried about him either.
  12. I was surprised that there were posters last offseason that thought that the Price contract was a good contract, but thought that Clay's option was a terrible deal. That never made sense to me.
  13. Price did have a very good year last year, but perception is everything. He was signed to be our ace, and on the whole, he did not live up to that billing. It seems like there were too many games that we needed him to come up big, but he was 'meh'. He disappointed me in too many games.
  14. Agreed. As you posted earlier, he had always been average to slightly above average defensively, until he fell off a cliff in 2015. If he is in as good shape as we've been hearing about, he should be solid defender too.
  15. I didn't say that he would turn the clock back 5 years. I said that league average is a reasonable expectation, about 2-2.5 WAR. I personally think he can be a a little better than that, but it's hard to know what to expect.
  16. All aboard the Pablo bandwagon! Woot! Woot!
  17. That's not really true. He was not worth the contract that he was given, but he was a pretty good player and he had two very good seasons. That said, I think that league average is a reasonable expectation.
  18. It seems that Pablo is determined this year. Things can change quickly, of course. And even if he keeps the weight off and stays in good condition, that is no guarantee that he will be able to rebound to his 2014 numbers. I remain hopeful though.
  19. LOL In fairness to him, he largely did.
  20. Agreed. Letting Beltre walk turned out to be a mistake. Theo was all about the draft picks though. It's odd that when Theo signed Beltre, there were a lot of unhappy posters.
  21. Johnny Damon had no position to play in Boston. He would not have been as good with us as he was for you. Either way, eff Damon. Victor Martinez is one who comes to mind. There are probably others that I just can't remember at the moment.
  22. As you know, I blame Lucchino.
  23. As I stated recently, you crack me up. While I think that some of your opinions are a little more extreme than mine (not that there is anything wrong with that), I do agree with many of your basic premises. And I do think Price has something to prove this season.
  24. Just messin'. I've already stated that I expect a nice rebound from Price. I think he will pitch like an ace this year. I do agree with the rest of that post, however.
