  1. I don't have a way to prove it right now, but I can guarantee you that our baserunning blunders have not cost us 5 to 10 games.
  2. You are exactly right that nobody can prove what the outcome of the game would have been if something different happened. That is why the correct way to determine the 'cost' of something like a baserunning blunder is to look at the change in run expectancy and win expectancy before and after the event. Saying that a particular out of the bases, even if it's the last out of the game, cost us the game is incorrect.
  3. I get all that. I'm just trying to point out that our baserunning isn't as bad as some think it is. People have talked about how we lead baseball in OOBs by a fair margin, then assume from that point that we are one of the worse baserunning teams in baseball or that our baserunning has done more harm than good, neither of which is correct. It's similar to looking at the number of errors that a player has and making a judgment on the overall defense of that player. It doesn't work like that.
  4. Don't let us down Sale! That goes ditto for our offense. WIN!!!
  5. Yup, it's hard to know. It's also hard to know whether he can ever get fully healthy again. I'm pulling for him though.
  6. I'm still not opposed to giving Travis a shot at 1B.
  7. Yes, the numbers account for the mistakes and all of the OOBs. I agree that there are some bad baserunning blunders. I just disagree with the idea that the baserunning blunders have cost us games, not that that excuses the blunders. That said, while there are clear boneheaded outs, I also think that some of the outs that some consider to be boneheaded really aren't boneheaded at all. Rather they are aggressive baserunning plays that didn't work out.
  8. I'm in the minority, but I like Hanley. Personally, I hope he he hits next year and in 2019 with the Red Sox.
  9. It was addressed with Devers and Nunez. My point all along, however, is that it didn't matter who was added to the line up if the guys we already had (Betts, Bogaerts, Hanley) didn't start producing. The Guardians look tough right now, but just a couple of weeks ago the Dodgers looked unbeatable. Not so much now.
  10. Our baserunning blunders have not cost us any games. Even with all of the OOBs, our baserunning has been worth about 1 WIN.
  11. Keep safe oldtimer. I hope for the best for you and your family.
  12. I don't disagree with that. My point is that maybe he's not as bad as some fans are making him out to be.
  13. Managing will not be the deciding factor.
  14. LOL If Price needs surgery, he just needs to go ahead and get it done. Having another season like this one where we can't depend on him is not going to cut it. He is the main reason why I am pretty sure that Dombrowski will be adding a #2/3 starter this offseason.

  16. Over starting the inning with a runner at 2nd base? Absolutely!
  17. I heard on the telecast last night that we've played the equivalent of 4 extra games so far this season with all of the extra inning games. Those are mentally extra taxing as well as being physically extra taxing. Additionally, I'm pretty sure we have played the most 4+ hour long 9 inning games. All of that surely contributes to how tired our players are.
  18. Updated boneheaded baserunning stats: Team UBR (extra base runs) = +4.7 Team stolen base runs = +3.5 Contrary to popular belief, it ain't all bad.
  19. I still disagree because they have nothing to lose by putting in a claim, unless they don't want to take the contract to begin with. Is there a limit to the number of players a team can claim?
  20. Makes sense. Of course, if Hanley's hitting like we hoped he would this year, no one is going to squeeze him out.
  21. Last in HRs in the league, yet first in the division. As frustrated as I get with this offense, I'm fine with the lack of homeruns if the pitching can stay strong enough to keep us going.
  22. I actually agree with those who said that is seems like a bit of a lowball offer, in both dollars and years.
  23. Yup, dudes dig the long ball!
  24. Well, Theo is a freaking genius. That said, at the time that nobody claimed Manny, he still had a lot of money remaining on his contract. Nobody claimed him because they didn't want to get 'stuck' with that contract.
