  1. Maybe not, but it doesn't hurt our chances either. Dombrowski will still sign a big bat, namely JD. I have no doubt. The question then becomes whether he trades JBJ or not, which I certainly hope he doesn't. Let JD primarily DH, and let Hanley and Moreland fight it out for 1B playing time.
  2. I kind of like it. Nice, short contract, and Moreland gives us insurance for Hanley in case he cannot get healthy.
  3. Thank goodness. I really have nothing against Hosmer, but I am against paying him the kind of money he is looking for.
  4. I really don't see that happening. At least, like you, I hope it doesn't happen.
  5. The Sox likely will have to pay more, but IMO, they will do what is necessary. It's probably going to be a crazy contract either way, what's another few million? LOL
  6. I have no clue what type of relationship they have, but Boras would be doing his client and himself a disservice not to allow any team the opportunity to beat the best offer. Especially a team like the Red Sox, have the money to do it.
  7. Have faith in Mr. Pedroia. If anyone can bounce back and have a successful remainder of a career, it's him.
  8. I'm with you oldtimer, expecially the part about moving JBJ to make room for JD. I hope JD is signed with the intent of being our DH.
  9. I think Dombrowski will eventually pay JD whatever it takes. They have the money to do that, now that they've reset. My hope is that the market does not bear out the demands of 6 or 7 years.
  10. I think Dombrowski and the Sox are willing to pay what it will take to sign JD, but they are waiting the market out to make sure they have it gauged correctly. Encarnacion's price came way down. If Dombrowski signs JD quickly, he could end up giving JD more years and dollars than he might have to. Dombrowski has probably asked Borass to give him a chance to beat his best offer before JD signs with another team.
  11. I am afraid that the Red Sox will have to overpay even more for JD in order to get him to just DH for us. Memo to Dombrowski: Do not sign JD for 6+ years.
  12. It was not so long ago that we had a nice farm. Sigh...
  13. Goodness. I leave for one day and you fall apart. Yes, the Yankees are considered the favorites for the division, but please don't go handing them the trophy on Dec. 15.
  14. Dave hasn't done anything yet, so there is nothing for me to approve of. I will give him credit for not being impulsive in countering the Yankees move. I am disappointed that he did not pick up any of the Braves' prospects. We'll have to wait to see what happens during the remainder of the offseason to see if I approve.
  15. The Yankees right now look like the favorites for the division, though the games still have to be played. Regardless, we are still a favorite to make the playoffs, which as you said, is the goal. I am not concerned with where we sit for this year.
  16. I have no problem with Hosmer at the right price, but I do have a problem with him if we have to give him a big contract. Yes, we know Henry has a lot of money. We also know that even with all of his money, bad contracts to players like Hosmer can handcuff a team.
  17. Agreed. I would even be okay with a 60-40 platoon again, only with Vaz getting the 60% over Leon. I'd prefer 80-20, but I'd be okay with 60-40.
  18. Jeter did not attend the winter meetings to explain or discuss the trade, but instead attended a football game not too far away. More bad optics.
  19. Not from me. Welcome to Boston, indeed!
  20. I would be fine with it regardless of who we pick up, but I agree that the lineup construction could change depending on who we get and on how things are progressing during the season.
  21. Yes, but only because tradition dictates that. It's not the way it should be.
  22. As a Red Sox fan, I can't stand the guy. That said, by all accounts, he is an all around good guy, great with the young fans, etc. Gotta respect that.
  23. I agree with this, to a certain extent. Our hitters were a little too passive. However, we don't want our hitters taking it to the other extreme.
  24. What is a 'real' #3 hitter? I am sure that your idea of a #3 hitter is different than mine. The #3 guy should not be the best hitter in the lineup.
  25. I like the idea of Betts and Beni hitting one and two.
