  1. There is no doubt in my mind that Dombrowski is going to get us a big bat. Not that I think it's necessary, but everyone else does.
  2. I would be fine with Moreland. I would be fine with staying status quo offensively.
  3. Dombrowski also said that Devers would not be called up to the majors anytime soon (or something to that effect), then called him up about a week later. He also said that there were no offseason surgeries scheduled, which was promptly followed by at least 3 offseason surgeries. So no, we don't really pay attention to what he says.
  4. He probably is overhyped, though that is not saying that he won't still be a good player. He will be so cheap for the first 3 years, it would have been silly not to go after him. I do agree that he won't be given much of a chance to hit, outside of hitting as a pitcher on an NL team.
  5. I get the impression that the FO is looking for Vaz to become a full time starter rather than having more of a platoon role with Leon. If that's the case, it makes perfect sense that Leon would catch only Sale. That is what I would like to see happen.
  6. Well, lucky for you, we are not rehashing mythical cliffs. The cliff is very real.
  7. Completely agree.
  8. I don't think it's superstition. I think it's just that most managers just tend to stick with the way that it's always been done. But I completely agree that a 'closer' should be brought into the game in earlier innings if that is when the game needs to be saved.
  9. Signing Santana sooner rather than later sounds reasonable. Dombrowski has a reputation for acting quickly. In doing so, he usually gets his guy, but he also usually overpays. Perhaps if he waits out the market for JD, the price will come down. That's my hope anyway. Would it be possible to sign JD for 4 years?
  10. Except for the Abreu part, I very much agree with this post. I'm not opposed to getting Abreu if the price is right, but it doesn't sound like it will be. The same goes with JD Martinez.
  11. There is also quite a history of high priced free agent closers being hit or miss.
  12. And that was completely different in 2016.
  13. Well that's all well and good, once you get on the other side of the rebuild. Are Sox fans willing to go through that? I think not!
  14. I'm not arguing that Kimbrel was valuable to the team. I'm just arguing whether one has to pay that much to get comparable value from a relief pitcher.
  15. Many of your best closers seemingly come out of nowhere. You do not have to spend big on a closer to get the production.
  16. It wouldn't be a cheap team, nor would it be a bad team. Henry's teams have never been cheap. A very strong core was already in place. I do think it would have been possible to field a contending team and keep the farm in good shape.
  17. Well, I just read yesterday that the Tigers are going into full rebuild mode and that everyone on the current team was available. Thanks Dave!
  18. Oh, I don't see it happening either. Not trading a current player for prospects. I'm just saying that if someone were interested, I'd listen.
  19. Dave will get us the big bat that everyone thinks we need. I have no doubt.
  20. It does seem like closers are fetching a premium price. Paying a lot for relief pitchers has always been a bad move by GMs, IMO. If someone is willing to overpay for Kimbrel, I'd listen.
  21. I realize that those two were big parts of our 2017 team. It turns out that we needed Sale. Some of us suggested before that perhaps some of the prospects used in the Kimbrel trade could have been packaged together with a couple of others to trade for Sale before 2016 instead of signing Price. The money saved on Price and Kimbrel could have been used to fill other holes. The net cost in both dollars and prospects would have been less than what it was.
  22. Dombrowski is slipping.
  23. It does seem to me that Seattle is the type of fit that Ohtani is looking for. Good luck to your team. Better the Mariners than the Yankees.
  24. I agree. I don't think there was ever much of a chance of the Sox landing Stanton. This has been an extremely slow moving offseason. It would be nice if something exciting happened.
  25. It looks like the Sox may be officially out of the Stanton chase: Craig Mish‏Verified account @CraigMish 26m26 minutes ago Source : Red Sox no longer in discussion for Giancarlo Stanton. Were considered longshot.
