  1. Of course. And as others have said, he could quite possibly be the one that leaked that information to begin with.
  2. But don't you think that if a higher offer from a mystery team did exist, that Boras would disclose that to the Red Sox? And wouldn't you think that Dombrowski would be willing to go higher than the reported $100 mil?
  3. I bet that your sources are as reliable as anyone's.
  4. I am on board with signing more pitching. IMO, it should be the priority over signing big lumber.
  5. 'Patience' is my middle name.
  6. I don't have much faith in Swihart being able to play 2nd base well, but IMO, it would be great option if he could.
  7. That's not happening, but wouldn't it be nice?
  8. I agree. He deserves a chance.
  9. OTOH, if Mookie is ticked at the Red Sox and won't sign an extension because of that, we'll likely have an extremely motivated player for the next 2 years.
  10. Bottom line. To me it's rather disheartening.
  11. IMO, the Red Sox handled the Rusney situation poorly back in the beginning. I don't think he got a fair shot with the major league team.
  12. I'm wondering if Mookie winning his arbitration would make him less upset or more upset. If the arbiters agree with Mookie, then that reinforces his opinion that the Sox offered too little. If, OTOH, the arbiters agree with the Red Sox, then perhaps Mookie will think that the Sox offer was pretty much in line with what it should have been. Either way, the best outcome would be for the 2 sides to come to terms before going to hearing.
  13. Don't encourage him, Bell.
  14. I'm getting to that point where I'm ready to move on too, but if he signed with Boston in 2 weeks I'm sure the frustration/annoyance/whatever would go away quickly.
  15. I pretty much agree with this.
  16. But Boras' demand also included 2 extra years.
  17. IMO, both sides are being a little stubborn here. Yes, Mookie is certainly worth $10.5 mil, but as a 2nd year arb player, he needs to be realistic in his demands. I feel like the Red Sox $7.5 mil offer is reasonable (not insulting), though they probably could have offered a little more. It would have been nice if the 2 sides could have agreed on middle ground. They still might before they actually go to arb.
  18. I absolutely agree oldtimer. I am not a fan of large contracts to superstars. I'd much rather sign the next tier type of player for a 2-3 year contract. The value, IMO, is better. At the very least, the risk is much less.
  19. Makes a lot of sense.
  20. I would be very surprised if Dombrowski let JD sign with another team if he could sign him for $125M/5.
  21. Counter a ridiculous demand with a ridiculous offer. Although, it could turn out that the Red Sox offer isn't that ridiculous or lowball at all. Maybe there is some collusion going on....
  22. I'm not so sure there is. The DBacks can't afford him as of now. Who else is there?
  23. And I am leaning towards the opposite being true. I'm still taking the Red Sox against the field. Although like many others, I'm getting to the point where I'm ready to move on from JD.
  24. I can't believe that Dombrowski would risk losing JD by not offering more than $100 mil for 5 years if another team has offered more. This leads me to believe the very real possibility that there isn't a better offer on the table for JD. Of course, we also don't know how accurate the report is.
