  1. It's times like these that make me wish I were a basketball or football fan. At least I have figure skating.
  2. Well obviously something will happen sooner or later, I'm just not coming home to the expectation that I'll be reading about the Sox (or any team) signing anyone big.
  3. I have gotten to the point where I'm no longer expecting anything to happen.
  4. LOL Stay strong Dave. I had forgotten about the La Russa signing.
  5. That's a good question Bell. I don't really have a good answer.
  6. Morrison plus the offensive upgrade that will be coming from within. Plus the upgrade in pitching. It would be enough.
  7. If we could get a solid starter and Morrison instead, I'm all in.
  8. This is presumably exactly what Boras is hoping will happen. Dombrowski or some other GM will get tired of waiting and increase his offer to get JD to sign now.
  9. Agree 100%.
  10. Yes, he is looking a little chunkier, particularly around the midsection.
  11. I agree. If JD has a better offer, I'd up the AAV slightly if that would get the job done, but I don't see any point in bidding against yourself.
  12. I wouldn't increase the offer if the 5/125 offer is already the best offer.
  13. Didn't Hosmer have two 7 year offers not too long ago? What happened to those? And if he did have those offers, why is he still unsigned?
  14. I have nothing against signing Hosmer, I just don't want him signed for the type of contract that he's looking for. Yes, he'd likely improve the team. but is the improvement worth the added cost over Moreland? IMO, it's not.
  15. If JD has a better offer from another team, I wish Boras would give the Red Sox a timed ultimatum. Dombrowski should already know whether he wants to beat the other offer or not, so what would he be waiting for? Of course, I do not believe there is a better offer.
  16. Yup. Dave panicked.
  17. I'd rather have a team that is competitive now and beyond the 2 year window.
  18. Making some trades is one thing. Depleting the farm is another.
  19. Thanks Dave!
  20. No doubt that having those two teams out of the bidding is affecting the market.
  21. I am 100% okay with that. Unlike many Red Sox fans, I like Hanley.
  22. I agree that the intent of the team is to spend big this winter on someone like JD. It's not that we'll spend less on JD because we want to extend a player, but rather that if we lose out on JD, we might want to instead look at extending a player with some of the money saved. IMO, not knowing what JD is going to do is holding up the rest of the team's decisions.
  23. The impression that GMs are being cautious this offseason with the intent that they will go for broke next season on Machado or Harper might be a completely wrong impression. Again, this year might be the beginning of a trend of moving away from those ludicrous contracts. Just speculation, of course. But I hope that's the case!
  24. It's not necessarily Boras' numbers that are flawed, but his logic in reading or interpreting those numbers. I don't appreciate that.
  25. If JD and Boras aren't careful, they might find JD ending up with a similar type contract.
