  1. Valid point.
  2. I agree with everything you wrote here. And $125M/5 is already an overpay, so it's not like JD should be insulted by that offer. If he is, then let him go elsewhere.
  3. It's possible that he still wouldn't be worth the contract, but it's also possible that he could have been a solid contributor. Maybe the Sox could have then used him as a trade piece. I'm not saying that he would have been an all star if the Sox gave him the chance, I just don't think they handled the situation very well.
  4. Publicizing a 'mystery team' would seem to only help JD's cause, not hurt it. I believe we would have heard about it if one existed.
  5. The strong likelihood is that JD needs the Red Sox more than the Red Sox need JD. IMO, JD is not the one with the leverage here.
  6. Of course. And as others have said, he could quite possibly be the one that leaked that information to begin with.
  7. But don't you think that if a higher offer from a mystery team did exist, that Boras would disclose that to the Red Sox? And wouldn't you think that Dombrowski would be willing to go higher than the reported $100 mil?
  8. I bet that your sources are as reliable as anyone's.
  9. I am on board with signing more pitching. IMO, it should be the priority over signing big lumber.
  10. 'Patience' is my middle name.
  11. I don't have much faith in Swihart being able to play 2nd base well, but IMO, it would be great option if he could.
  12. That's not happening, but wouldn't it be nice?
  13. I agree. He deserves a chance.
  14. OTOH, if Mookie is ticked at the Red Sox and won't sign an extension because of that, we'll likely have an extremely motivated player for the next 2 years.
  15. Bottom line. To me it's rather disheartening.
  16. IMO, the Red Sox handled the Rusney situation poorly back in the beginning. I don't think he got a fair shot with the major league team.
  17. I'm wondering if Mookie winning his arbitration would make him less upset or more upset. If the arbiters agree with Mookie, then that reinforces his opinion that the Sox offered too little. If, OTOH, the arbiters agree with the Red Sox, then perhaps Mookie will think that the Sox offer was pretty much in line with what it should have been. Either way, the best outcome would be for the 2 sides to come to terms before going to hearing.
  18. Don't encourage him, Bell.
  19. I'm getting to that point where I'm ready to move on too, but if he signed with Boston in 2 weeks I'm sure the frustration/annoyance/whatever would go away quickly.
  20. I pretty much agree with this.
  21. But Boras' demand also included 2 extra years.
  22. IMO, both sides are being a little stubborn here. Yes, Mookie is certainly worth $10.5 mil, but as a 2nd year arb player, he needs to be realistic in his demands. I feel like the Red Sox $7.5 mil offer is reasonable (not insulting), though they probably could have offered a little more. It would have been nice if the 2 sides could have agreed on middle ground. They still might before they actually go to arb.
  23. I absolutely agree oldtimer. I am not a fan of large contracts to superstars. I'd much rather sign the next tier type of player for a 2-3 year contract. The value, IMO, is better. At the very least, the risk is much less.
  24. Makes a lot of sense.
