  1. I hope Hanley rakes and his option vests, and I hope the Sox sign Buchholz to a minor league deal and he ends up becoming a regular starter in our rotation. Just because.
  2. We do not want to re-sign Kimbrel for the amount that he is going to command.
  3. Red Sox Stats ‏ @redsoxstats 4m4 minutes ago Red Sox Stats Retweeted Ben Badler Sox ranking over the past six year: 6, 2, 5, 4, 14, 24 Thanks Dave!
  4. There are still 2 years left on Porcello's contract, so it's too early to say whether I would still do that deal with the luxury of hindsight. It hasn't been as bad as you make it sound. Ben was not around long enough to know exactly what he could do as far as signing or dealing for pitching.
  5. If they are heavy metal, they are FAR, VERY FAR, from right up my alley.
  6. It could, but I've learned over the last several years that there are two players to never count out, Pedroia and Ortiz. I'll believe that Pedroia is finished when he's finished.
  7. Precisely!
  8. Harmony, why are you so intent on having other outbidding us for JD?
  9. He is likely not going to return to the "old Pedey" level, but he could still be a very good 2nd baseman for us.
  10. Which is what I've come to expect.
  11. I agree that the pitchers staying healthy is a big if. I don't agree that the offense rebounding is a big if. I think the latter is rather likely, actually. As far as the Yankees 7 game advantage and the addition of Stanton, Fangraphs still has them projected for 91 wins, just like the Red Sox. And the 2nd of my favorite three go to projection systems, Clay Davenport, currently has the Red Sox winning the division over the Yankees by one game. (The 3rd of my favorite three, Baseball Prospectus, is not out yet.) I understand that you take projections with a grain of salt, but on paper, we are currently as good as the Yankees.
  12. Don't ever count Pedroia out.
  13. There is no doubt that he has not been worth his contract. 2015 was really and enigma for both him and Pablo. Last year, I am hoping was due to Hanley not being healthy. I'm pulling for the guy.
  14. The only way Hanley's contract will vest is if he is raking. If he's raking, then I'd be happy to have him back next year. Personally, I thought his contract was a pretty decent one when it was signed. Pablo's contract is a different story.
  15. Thanks Dave!
  16. Part of the problem with Ben being able to sign either Lester or Scherzer was that Henry was strongly opposed to giving long term contracts to pitchers in their 30s, and rightly so. He then did an about face when and allowed Dombrowski to sign Price to that mega deal. Porcello's contract is the exact type of contract that teams should be looking for. I would do that deal all over again any day of the week.
  17. Hanley gets no love. If he's truly healthy, I think he will hit pretty well. He gets it. He knows that he needs to hit in order to stay in the lineup.
  18. What's the harm in giving Brentz a chance? Maybe he impresses in ST and the Sox can trade him for some small piece rather than just DFAing him. Or maybe he can actually contribute to the team as a 4th OF. If not, he can always be DFA'd later.
  19. LOL You crack me up. 1. I agree. The team, as currently constructed, can win it all if our starting pitchers remain healthy. 2. Dave has a plan. He has a Plan A, a Plan B, and a Plan C, at the very least. That said, I do agree that he is somewhat reactionary and that he has not been thinking in terms of the long range.
  20. If there ever was an 'all in' GM, it's Dombrowski. But being all in doesn't mean bidding against yourself, although Dombrowski did that with Price. Dombrowski is showing better patience and restraint with JD. Good for him.
  21. It is no secret that I am not a fan of Dombrowsk's methods, but he is a very smart and experienced baseball ops guy. I think he has a very good read on where he stands on being able to sign JD. He does not feel the need to increase his offer to JD. I think that is a very telling sign.
  22. I have no doubt that whoever lands JD is likely to overpay. $125/5yr is an overpay. Another team could certainly swoop in and offer JD more money or more years. I just don't believe that a higher offer to JD currently exists, which is why Dombrowski has neither budged from his offer nor announced that he is moving in another direction.
  23. Multiple teams pursuing JD is likely. JD having a 6 year offer is not likely.
  24. Ha. Never heard of it (them). One word for heavy metal - UGH.
  25. Fair enough. I never said that Ben was without blame. I just feel like he receives too much blame and not enough credit. At the same time, I feel like Dombrowski receives too much credit for getting the team back into the playoffs when they were pretty much already at that point when he arrived. I have no doubt that Henry was looking for Dombrowski to take an aggressive approach. I blame Henry for not having enough patience to let Ben see his 5 year plan come to fruition.
