  1. Stop Jacko. Just stop.
  2. I'm not getting all the 'lack of fire' and 'lack of leadership' criticism. IMO, we had some youngsters that often tried to do too much. That's about it.
  3. Since when? Price was supposed to be as close to a sure thing as you can have with a starting pitcher in his 30s.
  4. BP has finally released its standings predictions. "Boston Red Sox projected to finish second in AL East with 87 wins, New York Yankees first with 96, per Baseball Prospectus" Bell, you may officially begin to panic. Then again, they predicted the Sox to win 88 games last year and the Rays to win the division.
  5. Hindsight aside, $13 mil was a bargain for Buchholz.
  6. Here is MLB's statement in response to Tony Clark's earlier statement: Major League Baseball issued the following statement today in response to the comments made by MLBPA Executive Director Tony Clark: "Our Clubs are committed to putting a winning product on the field for their fans. Owners own teams for one reason: they want to win. In Baseball, it has always been true that Clubs go through cyclical, multi-year strategies directed at winning. "It is common at this point in the calendar to have large numbers of free agents unsigned. What is uncommon is to have some of the best free agents sitting unsigned even though they have substantial offers, some in nine figures. It is the responsibility of players' agents to value their clients in a constantly changing free agent market based on factors such as positional demand, advanced analytics, and the impact of the new Basic Agreement. To lay responsibility on the Clubs for the failure of some agents to accurately assess the market is unfair, unwarranted, and inflammatory." Spot on, if you ask me.
  7. I can understand that he is frustrated. He had ideas of close to $200 million for 6-7 years in his head, which would make the Sox offer seem like a lowball. However, saying that he prefers to sign with another team has obviously done him no favors among Red Sox fans. If he does end up signing with us, he will not be starting off on the right foot. If he starts of the season struggling, things can go south for him in a big hurry.
  8. Or perhaps there is something to what all those people are posting?
  9. If JD thinks the Red Sox are being so inflexible, let him find a better offer from another team. When he finds one, he can bring it back to the Red Sox, and perhaps the Sox will become more flexible. Until then, there is no reason for the Red Sox to bend. I want JD, but if he's not going to be happy signing here for "so little money", then I don't want him.
  10. My feelings exactly. I would like to sign JD, but we don't need him.
  11. Yup! As would be signing Buchholz to a minor league deal!
  12. Pedroia is not a negative OWAR batter. He has a negative OWAR because of his baserunning. MVP knows this.
  13. I'm not so sure about that.
  14. Exactly. The projected contract for Porcello was a good bit higher than what the Red Sox paid him. A 4 year contract for a then 27 year old pitcher top to mid rotation pitcher is almost a no brainer.
  15. I'm not signing Machado next year. I'd rather keep Porcello. Which is not to imply that I think Porcello is a better player. But Porcello is a better value than Machado and his hefty contract will be.
  16. It means giving him a day off more often than he's had in the past, but it doesn't mean he'll be a bench player. I'd rather Pedroia take a day off here and there and be able to get through the season in pretty good health, than try to play almost everyday and be done in August.
  17. I have said it before, and I'll say it again. I'd do that extension over again any day of the week.
  18. Robert Murray‏Verified account @RobertMurrayFRS Just talked to an agent who believes that we won’t see many, if any of the top free agents come off the board until March. “It’s horrific,” the agent said. “I think that’s where we are headed.” 5:02 PM - 6 Feb 2018 We could be waiting several more weeks for anything to happen.
  19. I have always been a fan of signing 2nd tier type players to 2-3 year contracts, as opposed to signing the top guys to 5+ years.
  20. I think he can finish the season on the field, but I think Cora will have to manage his playing time very carefully. I am not opposed to signing Nunez for the right price.
  21. I do not get the eagerness to trade Porcello.
  22. He obviously didn't need the money. Sometimes, there are more important things.
  23. I don't think he's a bad guy either. I do think he needs to come to grips with the reality of what the market will bear, though.
  24. I, OTOH, have all the respect in the world for Dempster.
  25. Good point. I still find it disheartening though.
