  1. I wouldn't do it. During the offseason, we talked about a 10 year deal which included his 3 arb years, meaning an extension of 7 years. Even that is too much, IMO, but for Mookie, I could accept that. What I'd really like to see is an 8 year deal from now which includes his final 2 arb years.
  2. There are some players who are surer bets than others, and Betts seems to be one of those. Even so, players start declining at about age 28. Having Betts signed through even age 37 is a huge risk.
  3. He's a good depth piece to pick up cheaply, just in case. I know Lin didn't play well when he filled in for Bogaerts, but I still think he deserves a shot.
  4. Knowing Cora, who's big on this type of thing, he will do exactly that if possible.
  5. LOL I said almost the exact same thing in the 5th inning. That was the slowest game ever.
  6. As far as last night's game goes, what should have been a very comfortable, even boring, game ended up being way too intense in the 7th and 8th innings. Thankfully, the Good Guys prevailed. It's nice to see the bottom or the order contributing.
  7. By every account of people who have played with both Lackey and Pedroia, both are great teammates.
  8. While I did expect bounce backs from our most of our line up, I did not think JD was going to be this good offensively. I take back every bad word I've ever said about Dombrowski. For today anyway.
  9. Oddly enough, the Yankees have bigger trade needs than the Red Sox do.
  10. We see these types of deals go bad time and time again (almost always), but as soon as the next really good player comes along, we all want to hand him a similar contract. I would really hate to see Mookie walk, but I can't see paying him what I think he's going to command.
  11. Shuddering at the thought.
  12. If there is a player I'd give a 10 year deal to, it would be Mookie. But I just can't go there.
  13. Awesome name! But you really ought to leave out the part about it not really being because of Epstein. Congrats Hugh!
  14. It's possible, I guess, but based on how long it's taking Pedroia to get back, I wouldn't count on it.
  15. Don't get me started Bell.
  16. I think the gone by September thing might just be some more fluky stuff, as far as the timing of his streaks go.
  17. It's not just about that one year that's 3 years from now though. It's about the entire 7 years, so that 'more years of control' is kind of my point. Also, it remains to be seen whether I'd rather pay Price $30 mil for that one year than I would Buchholz for his one year.
  18. I understand where you're coming from. His streakiness, aside from the bad luck, is both frustrating and puzzling. As far as his postseason numbers go, there are two points: 1. Very small sample size. 2. You are often facing the best of the best in postseason play. It's tough for most batters to have a lot of success against those pitchers.
  19. Can't say that I blame you. I usually stick it out with the volume on just to hear what they have to say, no matter how nauseating. LOL
  20. I always like to take the first game of the series to take some of the pressure off. Taking the first two would be even better. While I'd love to sweep the Yankees, I can't see a sweep happening for either team. Hopefully, we can win the series. If not, I may go back under my rock for a few days.
  21. LOL I just posted elsewhere that my money is on Price pitching well. It will be an ESPN Sunday Night game though, so that gives us all an excuse not to watch it if Price implodes. LOL
