  1. Makes you wonder how he's lost 4 games. The offense has to find a way to get to their bullpen.
  2. I think he did well enough at the beginning of the year to merit another shot at starting.
  3. Yes, that is a big part of it, I'm sure. I'm still expecting Seattle to fade in the division, though they will likely still win the wildcard.
  4. I have no doubt that Pedro is working with our pitchers. He's on our payroll to do so. If I'm not mistaken, Pedro was focusing on Porcello and his sinker during ST and early in the season. He seems to have listened. If you ask me, ERod, Pom, and Price all think too much on the mound. The amount of time they take between pitches when there are runners on base is too great. They need to take a page out of Sale's book - get the ball, get the sign, and pitch. If I were the coaches, I would tell those three guys to trust their catchers and not to shake them off. They are overthinking, which messes with their ability to pitch with any conviction.
  5. Good post Fred. I am not concerned about our SPs either, including Price, provided they stay healthy. I don't think it's necessarily the Yankees that are in Price's head, but rather the media and fan scrutiny surrounding his Yankees starts, though that difference might be subtle. Price needs to stop reading Twitter, or whatever it is that he reads.
  6. 1. Mookie Betts ® RF 2. Andrew Benintendi (L) LF 3. Xander Bogaerts ® SS 4. Mitch Moreland (L) 1B 5. Rafael Devers (L) 3B 6. Brock Holt (L) 2B 7. Sandy Leon (S) C 8. Jackie Bradley Jr. (L) CF 9. Rick Porcello ® P Being a National League park with no DH, JD gets the night off tonight. He will be playing in the remaining 2 games with Beni and JBJ each getting a day off.
  7. Yes, I realize that this trade is not happening. Fortunately for your Mariners, they seem to be getting along fine without Cano. Since I made my post about Seattle not hanging with the Astros for the division, they fell back about 4 games, but have now won 7 in a row to get back to within .5 games. You can thank me later. That said, Seattle is still an incredible 9 games above their Pythagorean W-L.
  8. I would agree. So, how is it that Price can handle the pressure of pitching from the pen, but not the pressure of starting? Rhetorical question, BTW.
  9. Helping other players, yes. Helping his country mate, yes. Helping a Yankees player, NO.
  10. Ha. Great minds. Except I used fWAR.
  11. As of now, JBJ's fWAR is 0.7, so the answer to your question is 'yes'.
  12. For the second month this year (June), and only the 2nd month ever (April being the first time), there were more strikeouts than hits.
  13. The following 'qualified' players are all hitting below .200: Chris Davis Lewis Brinson Gary Sanchez Logan Morrison Alcides Escobar Joey Gallo Jonathan Schoop It's interesting to note also the Harper is only batting .216, though his OBP is .366.
  14. And yet he does not 'choke' in big games when pitching from the pen.
  15. LOL I know you would. There are some reasons to consider it, like the $7 million we'd save toward the luxury tax limit. That would allow us to make another move.
  16. It's interesting that Price was able to pitch so well out of the pen in the postseason. Does pitching out of the pen in a close game have less 'pressure' than starting?
  17. I would not do that trade simply because of the PEDs issue. Beyond that, I still think that the Sox need the starting pitching more than they need the offense. So it's a no for me either way.
  18. The statistics also show that out of the top 5 spots, the #3 spot is the fewest number of high impact at bats. A good bit of that is obviously due to the first inning.
  19. Haha. I saw that tweet and got a little excited. I can't help myself. Batting order does not make that much of a difference, unless a manager is going to truly optimize his line up by bucking all tradition. The difference between JD batting 3rd versus batting 4th amounts to 2 runs, on average, over an entire season. I completely agree that batters should be placed where they feel most comfortable. If JD has expressed a preference to bat 3rd rather than 4th, than by all means, Cora should leave him there. All that said, I am a firm believer that your best hitter should not be batting 3rd, and I will continue to make that point. IMO, JD would be comfortable hitting in either spot, and over the long run, the team would be better off.
  20. That would make sense, if protection were actually a real thing.
  21. Fair enough. I will take you even one step farther, because that's just the kind of poster I am. With JD batting 3rd, the Sox have scored 5.26 runs per game. With JD batting 4th, the Sox have scored 5.19 runs per game. That amounts to a difference of 11.3 runs over the season.
  22. I am all for pitching inside to back a player off of the plate if he looks too comfortable. I am all for a pitcher hitting a player in the backside to show he has his teammates' back, as when Kelly hit Austin. I am not for hitting a player because he has owned your team. If the pitcher doesn't like it, he needs to make better pitches. That said, if a player does get thrown at for taking the pitcher deep, or whatever, then retaliation is, by all means, necessary.
  23. Of course you don't think he should apologize. You condone sexist behavior.
  24. Yes, I know.
  25. My sense of humor is fine. I appreciate you apology, but even with that, you're deflecting big time.
