That might be part of it, but after the first couple of weeks of baseball, rotations are no longer matched up so that the top starters necessarily face the top starters. Also, it's not always a top starter who is a victim of lack of run support.
I really don't disagree with any of this Notin. I just have a hard time believing that no team is willing to take a chance on Hanley at league minimum. I think it's very possible that Hanley is willing to sit out rather than play for a team like the Os or the Tigers.
Hanley is available for league minimum. Any team in contention needing a right handed bat would take a chance on that, regardless of his lackluster performance since he's been with Boston.
If no team is willing to touch him based on a false report, then that is just wrong.
Good stuff. So JBJ has the highest hard hit rate and one of the lowest soft hit rates in baseball, along with the unsustainable BABIP.
Something has to give soon.
If that's the case, that would be a shame. Hanley's character might be destroyed because a reporter wanted to be the first to break a story before he/she had all the facts.
Agree. He made the wrong decision, IMO. However, the implications that Cora doesn't know what he's doing because he's a rookie or that he can't see what seems so obvious to us, the expert fans, is out of line.
Several things:
1. JD > Stanton
2. We could get the significant 2B upgrade that you want, and it could still be wildcard and done.
3. We don't have the resources to get the kind of significant upgrade that you're looking for.
4. No worries. As we stand right now, our team has as good a chance as winning the WS as any other team.
Cora's approach, on the whole, seems to be working. That said, I question some of it too. There are times that I think he takes his approach about resting players a bit too far. Then again, you can't really argue with the success the team is having.
Not only his BABIP, but he leads MLB in hard hit balls rate for the month of June:
Hard Hit Rate in June
1 66.7% Jackie Bradley
2 65.9% Christian Yelich
3 62.0% Justin Upton
5 60.0% Aaron Judge
From Red Sox Stats about last night's game:
The Sox were 1 for 7 with a single on hard hit balls tonight, the Mariners were 7 for 17 on weak hit balls. One of those nights.
Baseball is indeed a funny game.
"The reporting on Hanley’s involvement in this matter was reckless and irresponsible. It’s unfortunate that one careless, inaccurate story can generate such widespread negative and damaging coverage."
Truer words were never spoken.
I am glad to hear that Hanley is seemingly cleared of all of this.
My heart would have been broken otherwise.
