  1. Houston is a good team, there's no doubt about that. IMO, they are the favorites (very slight) over the Sox right now. That said, they can be beaten.
  2. One thing to keep in mind is that Cora will manage his starting pitchers and his pen differently in the postseason than he is now.
  3. I think it's more a matter of being extremely cautious, along with getting Sale the late season rest, than it is a matter of a serious injury. Like others have said, I think that if the race for the division were closer, Sale would be pitching.
  4. Thanks Dave!
  5. Agreed. The playoffs are too much of a crapshoot to take any team lightly. On paper, the Astros and the Red Sox are the two best teams in baseball, with the Astros having a very slight edge. I like our chances.
  6. Good post Oldtimer. The good news is, despite the outcome, Price is pitching like an ace again. I would have rather seen him pitch great and have the BP blow the game than to see Price come out and stink up the joint. Cora has the luxury of 'experimenting' with the BP right now, which I think he is doing. In the postseason, he will be managing the pitchers in a very different fashion, which I think will result in better outcomes.
  7. Come on Station. Stop with this nonsense.
  8. I'm sure part of Cora's decisions are to give these guys a try out, so to speak. Brasier has been very good, and Cora has been him into higher leverage situations. It didn't work out last night. Houston is a very good team. Their offense is very Red Sox like, having the ability to mount late inning comebacks, just like the Sox can.
  9. Bummer for Pedroia. I was really hopeful earlier in the season that he would contribute to this team. There's always next year, Pedey.
  10. I think that was a large part of the reason why we signed Eovaldi to begin with. It makes sense for him to start over ERod if we're facing the Yankees.
  11. One game is not something to base a postseason roster off of. I would certainly give Phillips the playing time, and see how things look in 3-4 weeks. This is a good example of why you sign these types of players for depth. There really is no risk involved, and they just might win you a game (or several). As one of the writers pointed out, there was zero expectation of Phillips, so no matter what happens for the remainder of the season, this signing is a plus.
  12. He gets my vote!
  13. I like the word 'randomness' myself.
  14. Fair enough.
  15. He strikes me as a really good guy who just wants to play baseball. I was hoping that he'd be able to get some meaningful at bats with the team, and not just some fluff playing time. Good for him!
  16. LOL That is some crazy stuff.
  17. Wow! Just wow! I'm so happy for Phillips. He stuck it out in AAA, hoping to get his chance. He got his chance, and he made the most of it. As somebody else said, you can't make this stuff up. Great game!
  18. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family Youk. Thank you for taking the time to remind us that people who suffer from addiction are not bad or useless people. Best wishes and warmest thoughts to you.
  19. In theory, it definitely sounds like a smart idea. In addition to what you have said, it makes things much more difficult for the opposing team to prepare for the game, and for the opposing manager to set a line up in terms of platoons. I still don't know if I'm on board with it. It will be interesting to see how much this idea catches on with other teams.
  20. Beautiful indeed!
  21. Agreed. Even if JBJ is traded this offseason, I would not make JD a regular OFer. Keep JD as the DH with occasional playing time in the OF to keep him happy. Not only is that the best thing to do for the team, but it's also the best thing to do for JD.
  22. Cash is doing a really good job. I'm not sure I'm on board with the 'Opener' thing and the regular bullpen days, but it's been working pretty well for the Rays of late.
  23. So far, so good.
  24. Well it sounds like Sale is going to be our 'Opener' for his first couple of starts back. It also sounds like both Sale and Price could return next weekend.
  25. JD is putting up career best numbers this year in pretty much every offensive category besides SLG, at age 30 - 31, when players are typically past their peak. I'm not just talking about his counting stats, which are somewhat a product of health. His rate stats are career best as well. JD is also sporting a rather high BABIP of .387. I'm not saying that I thought JD would stink or be mediocre. I knew he would be very good, just not this good. Kudos to you if you thought he was going to have his career best year because he is somewhat defying the odds to do so.
