  1. To me, a cliff means not having a realistic shot at the postseason as you enter the season.
  2. I would prefer to go higher AAV and shorter years.
  3. Of course they can keep whoever they want. They can sign whatever free agent they want to whatever contract they want. It's not realistic though, and they won't do it. There is a limit to how much Henry is willing to spend. The fact that both the Yankees and the Dodgers were adamant about resetting their penalties this year speaks volumes.
  4. We don't need Kimbrel. We need a solid closer who will be as effective as Kimbrel. We can find one for cheaper.
  5. The cliff is real.
  6. I agree, so long as the other guys in the line up are hitting like they are capable. JBJ hitting like he is now versus being in one of his prolonged slumps makes a huge difference. At any rate, I can't imagine that Leon will continue to be as bad as he's been since taking over mostly full time catching duties.
  7. Who am I kidding? LOL The Yankees are going DOWN!
  8. Yup, 1 is the same as 2 for this series. I want to win at least 1 game. Anything else is just gravy. The Yankees will be motivated for this series, no doubt. One, they don't want us clinching on their turf. Two, they are out for redemption after being swept at Fenway. Cora's priority right now is the postseason. He's not going to go all out to win any game. Could be a tough series.
  9. Well, they didn't baby Sale with the innings last year, and he fizzled in September and October. The old way didn't work, so this is worth a shot.
  10. Yes, that would be an option. It depends on who it is and what the cost is. I am just very leery of messing with a pitcher/catcher relationship. To me, that is more important than any offense a catcher can provide.
  11. Personally, unless a super deal comes along, I'd keep all three.
  12. I am in complete agreement. That said, whatever Cora decides, I'm sure will be the right choice.
  13. We should be fine for 2019. Like you, I think it will be another strong year. It's 2020 and beyond where we have the possibility of losing a lot of our players. IMO, the bullpen will be the biggest offseason focus, including the closer position. Outside of that, I think it's mostly depth type pieces that we will need.
  14. It was possible that Holt would not be able to return to full health, but IMO, this is the kind of deal you take a chance with. It's $2.2 million, which is nothing in baseball terms. If he stinks, it's fairly easy for a team to eat that contract. If he's healthy, then it becomes good value.
  15. Absolutely Bell. Good job by Dave. On this move, Dombrowski and I completely agree.
  16. I completely agree.
  17. It doesn't sound like anything serious, but it still makes me nervous that he was taken out of the game due to soreness. Fingers crossed.
  18. You know things are good when Wright comes in and nails down the one run save.
  19. But if we carry three catchers, Swihart should only have to be used for maybe 2 innings. I'd start with Leon, then go with Vaz, then to Swihart, if necessary. It's possible that it might not even get to having Swi behind the plate. And if it does get to that point, he seems to be okay with the pen, as you said.
  20. IMO, yes. He overpaid, more so for Kimbrel than for Sale. It's not whether those prospects have or will amount to anything, or whether they were blocked. It's about getting back proper value for them at the time of the trade. Obviously, I'm not unhappy with having either Sale or Kimbrel on the team. I could accept any of those deals individually. I am unhappy with the state of our farm system. Let's hope that we win the WS this year.
  21. It's going to happen. The Sox merely have to go 4-9 in their remaining games to get to 106. As I said before, reaching 106 wins should not be the focus, but when it happens, it will be pretty cool.
  22. Yes, and this looks like a theme that is definitely going to continue in the playoffs. It kind of gives us the best of both worlds. Strong defense behind the plate with Leon and Vaz, and good offense in being able to pinch hit for both of them, if needed. I'm all for 3 catchers on the postseason roster. All that said, Cora said last night that his postseason roster decisions would not be based on small samples.
  23. I'd like to give a little shout out to Brock Holt, whom nearly everyone here was against bringing back for a mere $2.2 million. After the terrible time that he had last year with the concussion issues, he has bounced back fairly well and has come up with a few big pinch hits. Additionally, he seems to be a great presence in the clubhouse and just an overall good person. Anyone who gets nominated for the Roberto Clemente Award is okay in my book. Good for him.
  24. I really would have no problem with the Yankees signing Machado and Harper. Admittedly, I have a little 'girl' crush on Kershaw. Seeing him in pinstripes would stink just because I like him as a player so much.
