  1. We could have had it all, with a little better long term planning a few years back. We had it all last year and we have it all again this year. What we are lacking is the young, cost-controlled revolving door needed to replace some of our expensive free agents to be. Yes, IMO, it was possible to have our cake and eat it too.
  2. I would not do either, but if I had to choose, I'd take Bogey at 9.
  3. Dallas Keuchel is trying on his pinstripes as I type...
  4. I honestly don't think Mookie is interested in giving the team any kind of a discount. That's my impression, anyway.
  5. For the number of years suggested, hard pass on both.
  6. Personally, I really hope not, but I wouldn't be surprised if he is.
  7. I'm not sure looking at their most recent postseason appearance is the best way to look at it. How about the number of postseason appearances in the last 10 or 15 years?
  8. This is a good deal for both the Jays and for Clay. I hope he does well too, except when he pitches against us.
  9. The pen is suspect only because it is largely unknown. Being unknown does not necessarily mean bad or even mediocre. I am also surprised that Dombrowski did not make a move to improve the pen, but I am not disappointed in the fact that he didn't. The rest of our team is good enough that if they stay relatively healthy and perform to reasonable expectations, we will make a deep run into the postseason.
  10. As I posted previously, we have the Yankees and the Astros exactly where we want them.
  11. Ding Ding Ding Ding
  12. Lucchino's downfall - Trying to build a team based off of what splashy signing would put fans in the seats versus who would give the team the most wins. Signing someone like Harper might work for a little while, but it will get old fast. Winning is what keeps fans in the seats.
  13. If they stay healthy, they are as good a starting 5 as any. If I had to name my biggest concern for this season, it would be the health of our starting 5, which leads to starting pitching depth. Clay could have probably helped our team quite a bit had he been willing to sign a minor league deal with us.
  14. Despite the team's desire to not carry 3 catchers this season, I would not be at all surprised if we do for a couple of months. This will (maybe) give the team a clearer picture of what Swihart can do behind the plate. I still like the idea of having that 3rd catcher on the team, provided that Cora will give Swihart ample playing time.
  15. Chavis might get a call up here and there due to injury of another player, but I have a hard time seeing the moves you're talking about occurring this season. I agree that Devers might eventually end up at 1B, but not this year.
  16. I am envious of those of you who get to attend spring training games. Not only for the great baseball that you get to see, but also for the nice weather that you get to enjoy. I'm at the point where I would welcome the sun beating down on me for a few hours. I am also interested in seeing Pedroia get into a game. I believe he's supposed to play this week.
  17. Agreed. If ever there was a team that has a great chance to repeat as WS Champs, this team is it. If it turns out that our pen needs some help, Dombrowski will get the help the team needs.
  18. I know. Hence the italicized word 'are', to emphasize my agreement with you.
  19. I think that depends on the health and the quality of the starting five. I can't imagine Clay supplanting any of our current projected top 5.
  20. It could be a lot worse, if you ask me. I just don't have the concerns about our BP that most Sox fans have. In Cora We Trust. Maybe Dave too.
  21. No, we don't know the chances will be be that small. As I've said before, the best relievers often come out of nowhere. Prepare to be shocked.
  22. Ha. Good ole Joe Kelly. He will probably dominate out of the pen this year.
  23. There you go. That's the right way to look at it!
  24. I can imagine. I understand people's concerns about our pen. I sincerely think it will be good enough to get us where we need to go.
