  1. I do remember reading that recently Oldtimer, that Dombrowski was looking to trade Swihart or Vazquez, though he didn't specifically say "not Leon".
  2. ^^This. It could be that Swihart ends up being very good defensively behind the plate, but he just hasn't had enough playing time to know for sure. I would not mess with the Vaz/Leon duo.
  3. I get that. I can see someone starting the season on the DL.
  4. I completely agree.
  5. I don't know. I guess because he's picking one player over the rest of his teammates? I personally don't see anything wrong with it, but I could see how it could create some backlash.
  6. This was just taped a couple of weeks ago. As a huge bowling fan, I am very impressed by the way Mookie bowls. It isn't as easy as many people think it is. Mookie has even bowled in 300 in a PBA event. That's crazy.
  7. Apparently, he is taking some flack for stating that Mookie is his favorite player.
  8. I'm not sure that I'd consider 20 pitchers as 'aces'. I don't have any set criteria for it, but I think my idea of an ace would have that number around 12, maybe 15. There are some other very good #1 pitchers, I just wouldn't call them aces.
  9. While I think Quality Starts gives a good indication that the pitcher pitched well enough to give his team a chance to win, it is a little whack in its criteria. Your post points this out very well. Game Scores are a good and simple alternative to Quality Starts.
  10. True, but I also think that with the way things have gone in free agency the past 2 seasons, not to mention the uncertainty of the next CBA, these young guys are going to be more eager to signing extensions before they reach FA.
  11. I believe that the only Sox player not to have arrived at camp yet is JD Martinez, and he is expected to report soon. It's good to see that the vast majority of our guys have reported early and are eager to go.
  12. That's interesting. I understand Baldelli has health issues, but it seems odd that the Twins would hire a manager who can't manage every game. I'd imagine that all the travel would be a concern as well. To me, it might have made more sense to hire Baldelli as some kind of consultant or something along those lines.
  13. The parade does indeed make it all worth it.
  14. The Yankees have a better long term outlook than the Red Sox currently have. That could still change quickly, depending on the direction that Henry and Dombrowski choose to go. That said, the Yankees have nothing on the Red Sox for 2019.
  15. I am one who gets excited by analytics. IMO, they very much enhance my enjoyment and understanding of the game.
  16. I do like that aspect of Wright being in the pen. Wright is a guy who can pitch multiple innings, so he can pitch through most of the line up if Cora chooses to keep him in that long. Imagine having to face Sale, then Wright, then Barnes.
  17. Someone once used an analogy that about how he would never presume to know more about having a baby than a woman. Again, it depends on exactly what it is you want to know. If I were going to have a child, who am I going to trust to deliver my child? A male doctor who has studied obstetrics for years but has never given birth, or a female who has given birth but is not an OB?
  18. Don't get me started...
  19. If there is a person who has MLB playing experience and who is well versed in analytics, then that person would probably be a better source regarding baseball than someone who has one quality or the other. Past that, there are obviously areas where a player with major league experience is going to know more than someone who hasn't played the game. At the same time, there are going to be some areas where the analytics guy has an advantage over someone who has played the game. If I want batting lessons, I'm going with the major league player. If I'm putting together a team, I'm going with the analytics guy every time.
  20. Bingo.
  21. Words of wisdom right here.
  22. Dombrowski has already said that Pedroia will not be a full time player. After being out for most of last season, it's difficult to know how Pedroia will respond. He's one player that I won't count out, though.
  23. Thanks Dave!
  24. Dombrowski seems unwilling to part with any of the catchers unless he gets back what he deems to be fair value. He also seems unwilling to DFA Swihart. It might be that we ride things out with 3 catchers for a little while.
