  1. Colten Brewer - Soon to be 2018 Red Sox closer.
  2. Until the real games start, meaningless.
  3. Dustin Pedroia - 2019 Comeback Player of the Year
  4. It's been done, many times over. The correlation between spring training W-L record and regular season W-L record is rather weak, at best.
  5. IMO, Devers was brought up too early. He could have used some extra time in the minors to work on his defense. Instead, he is having to hone his defensive skills while in the majors, which is more difficult to do. I think we'll see improvement this year.
  6. What the heck. Bring Varitek back!
  7. Ah. I didn't pick up on your point behind that post. LOL
  8. The difference is negligible. For every move a manager makes to improve the offense, there is an almost equal negative effect. It's almost like one of Newton's Laws.
  9. We have been outscored something like 40-6 in the past 5 games, all losses. Good thinking on the part of the relievers. Get it out of your system now.
  10. Back to back to back to back. That's all that needs to be said.
  11. That is a possiblity, for sure. It's also possible that the Sox make a move now, and it's the wrong move, and they still may have unintentionally waited themselves out of a playoff spot. I understand the desire to add to the pen now. Personally, I'm very good with the team as it currently stands. Unless we run into some very bad luck with injuries or underperformances, I don't think we need to worry about missing the playoffs.
  12. Good post Jacko.
  13. LOL I almost quoted you initially, then I thought again.
  14. Saying that stolen bases are overrated is not the same as saying that stolen bases are not important. Stolen bases do not have as large an impact as it seems they would.
  15. Back in his day, I'm sure the manager put Henderson in the lead off spot because of his speed and his ability to steal bases. Fortunately for the A's, Henderson also had a very good OBP. The widely accepted current view is to look for a high OBP first. Speed is not an important quality for the lead off hitter.
  16. Remember the concern by some last ST when Mookie got off to a horrendous start? I think the Cora actually tells his players to hold back a little and take it slow, especially the pitchers. I would not be concerned by what we are seeing right now.
  17. I think that when we get to the deadline, if the Sox look like they need that one piece to push them over the top, they will do what it takes to get that one piece, including going over the highest penalty line if they have to. I can't imagine Henry holding back if the team is that close to possibly repeating. Holding back now is a different story because we really don't know what piece the team needs. It may turn out that we don't need any significant pieces, or it may turn out that we are so riddled with injuries that there are too many holes to fill.
  18. I would be too worried about 1. the long term effects that putting PEDs into my body would have. 2. getting caught and having that be the of my career. 3. the disappointment in my parents for cheating.
  19. By reinstating him, MLB is sending the wrong message, regardless of whether Mejia missed 3 prime seasons.
  20. Until he came to Boston, where he did a complete about face...
  21. The same way that you know Mookie is just being level headed and that he's not all about the money.
  22. "All about OBP" is a figure of speech. Of course there are other things to consider, but the ability to get on base is the most important quality of your leadoff hitter. Being speedy is not really an important factor. Base stealing actually has more impact on an offense when you put base stealers in front of your singles hitters instead of in front of your power hitters. Rickey Henderson was a great leadoff hitter because of his ability to get on base, not because of his base stealing prowess.
  23. I'm not sure that not wanting to sign Kimbrel is a Dombrowski choice. It sounds like it's more of a Henry directive.
  24. I was completely on board with Mookie batting first last season but not because he's fast and can steal bases. Batting lead off is all about OBP. Personally, I would have kept the top of the order the same as last year, but switching Mookie and Beni should be fine too. I do think people tend to get hung up on RBIs though.
