  1. Amen, Brother Bell.
  2. It's not an infatuation with ex Sox players. Clay is a very good pitcher. He has ace quality stuff. Yes, he has both physical and mental issues, but when he is right, he can be dominant. He is worth taking a chance on. If he could give us what he gave the DBacks last year, I'd be down with that.
  3. I may be wrong, but I just don't see Mookie offering any type of a home team discount. I'm not sure that he has ever said anything along the lines of really hoping he can stay in Boston for as long as possible? Base on what he has said, Mookie is going for the money, wherever that might take him.
  4. I think Sale is going to price himself right out of Boston. IMO, we should be prepared to let both Sale and Betts walk.
  5. Yes, that will be interesting. I hope that's not the case. I remember all too well our opening game last year against the Rays.
  6. Exactly. It will be interesting to see what happens with our 3 catcher situation.
  7. I can't imagine what it would feel like to lose a brother, and I hope that I don't have to find out anytime soon. It sounds like Swihart is one of those who wanted to continue playing and maintain as much 'normalcy' as possible. It also sounds like he found a great deal of comfort from his team. I think it would hit him really hard if he were DFA'd or traded at this time. I hope you're doing okay.
  8. IMO, unless there is a glaring hole, or a deal comes along that you just can't pass us, it is usually better to wait a few months into the season, then re-assess. Our team looks really good. Our bullpen might end up being surprisingly good. It might turn out that we need a SP or a 1B rather than a reliever. We'll have a better idea in July.
  9. I agree with this. I don't think that getting a large contract changes the way that a player plays or prepares to play. Most players take great pride in what they do.
  10. Maybe Clay will be a midseason Red Sox acquisition.
  11. I really find the idea of having Clay close intriguing.
  12. I think most of us recognized that he would likely get a major league contract with some team. All we were saying is that he would definitely be worth signing to a minor league deal. The fact that a team is willing to sign him to a major league deal makes the second sentence all that more valid.
  13. We have Cleveland right where we want them too.
  14. I certainly hope Chavis doesn't use again. I know the way that I feel when watching someone like Nelson Cruz beat us with a home run. All I can think is that he's a cheating bastid.
  15. I wonder if most sites mention PED suspensions in their write ups about their prospects.
  16. And now we will hear ad nauseam speculation about what kind of contract Mookie should get.
  17. Well saying that the deal is not really any bigger than Machado's does nothing for me. Machado's contract is insane too. I know I'm probably in the minority, but I am truly disheartened by these contracts. I thought GMs were wising up.
  18. Unreal. It makes you wonder what Mookie will get. SMH This is a sad day in baseball, IMO.
  19. Updated projected standings from the big three: Fangraphs - Yankees 98 wins, Astros 96 wins, Red Sox 95 wins, Cleveland 92 wins Baseball Prospectus - Astros 98 wins, Yankees 97 wins, Cleveland 96 wins, Red Sox 90 wins Davenport - Yankees 97 wins, Astros 96 wins, Red Sox 91 wins, Cleveland 90 wins Like last year, we have the Yankees and the Astros right where we want 'em.
  20. I have no words to describe the level of insanity that this contract reaches.
  21. JD has done an excellent job of coaching/mentoring our young hitters, not to mention being a great role model in terms of his work ethic. Dombrowski's finest hour.
  22. Too bad he got busted for PEDs.
