  1. Those late-inning and extra-inning losses are always the toughest to take, especially when it's a 1-run loss, but as you pointed out, there are many positives to take away from that game. I figured the Phillies would win that game by a fairly wide margin. That we played them so closely is a good sign. I'm still upset that we lost though.
  2. All of the speculation and rumors about our players being traded are hard for me to deal with as a fan. I can't imagine what it must be like for the players, especially Duran right now. You always hear about how baseball is a business and it comes with the territory, but on the personal side, being traded does uproot your family. They say moving is one of the most stressful things in life.
  3. I think we are a pretty good team and are good enough to make the playoffs if we stand pat. However, we are by no means a shoo in. I think we should be buyers, but not at the expense of our long term. I'd like a top starting pitcher and a back end reliever. How Breslow is going to do that, I have no clue.
  4. I expect Devers to return to form, and to be a very good hitter for a few more years. In the long run, however, I think the Giants will regret that contract. More to Bell's point than whether the Giants will regret the move, I don't think the Sox will have any regrets about trading Devers.
  5. I'm guessing we won't see Houck again this season. Even if he does return sooner rather than later, we don't know what we'd get from him. I thought that acquiring a #2 or #3 starter was our top priority before this news, so that definitely remains a top priority for me.
  6. I know, it's sad. I just can't pull for the Giants right now. The Red Sox will just have to take care of their own business. And not that I like the Blue Jays, but I dislike them a lot less than I dislike the other 3 AL East rivals. As far as the Yankees go, you don't have to worry about me ever rooting for them.
  7. Hopefully it means we won't be seeing Yoshida in left field anymore. Anthony's emergence is a good kind of stress to have, I guess.
  8. Dear Trevor Story, I'm forever on your bandwagon. Please continue to prove your naysayers wrong. Won't give up on you, Kimmi
  9. I absolutely love the shade of yellow on those uniforms, but that shade of yellow has no business being on a Red Sox jersey.
  10. The Giants are 11-17 since the trade. Devers certainly hasn't provided the spark that the Giants were hoping for. I think you are right that this will end up being a very good thing for the Red Sox. There's a long way to go, though, before that assessment can be made. As an aside, I had another internal battle over the weekend - do I pull for the Giants or the Blue Jays? Is it wrong that I pulled for the Blue Jays? It's sad that I can't pull for any of the top 3 teams in the NL West.
  11. As frustrating as our offense is at times, my top priority is a #2 or #3 starting pitcher. Next would be a back end reliever, although our bullpen has been pretty good. Pitching depth is always a good thing.
  12. I know a lot of people love this type of thing, which is fine. Personally, it makes my head hurt. In this regard, I was better off without instant access to all of the information that is at our fingertips. I'd rather wait until a trade or a signing happens, then make my assessment at that time.
  13. Last night's game was about as close to a must-win game as there can be at this point of the season, IMO. The All-Star break has not been kind to us. The last thing we needed was to get swept coming out of the break. I feel pretty good about winning 1 of 3 from a very good Cubs team, which is an odd thing to say. The road is not getting any easier.
  14. The Brewers have been playing really good baseball. That being the case, they will probably get swept by the Mariners, mostly because the Mariners like to annoy me. LOL
  15. He may be looking into making a move that none of us will have seen coming.
  16. So far this season, and last season, the Sox have followed up a really good stretch by an equally (or worse) bad stretch. We need to avoid that coming out of the break. I don't expect them to continue playing .917 ball like they have in July so far, but let's not play .200 ball the rest of the month. Win series at home, play .500 on the road. I'm nervous about the upcoming stretch of games.
  17. "You talkin' to me?" she says in her best De Niro voice. I am fully aware that the players are unaware of my existence. I get attached anyway.
  18. As MVP stated, I don't think we'll see Duran or Anthony at first base. Wishful thinking on my part. It's good to have the flexibility, though moving too many players out of position can do more harm than good. This is why we pay Breslow the big bucks.
  19. I don't disagree. I'm just trying to find a way not to have to trade any depth away.
  20. It all makes sense, Moon. There is going to be some risk in whatever moves we make or don't make. I always have this fear of trading a player only to have that player be the player we should have kept. I must admit, that fear is usually unwarranted.
  21. I don't wish injury on Devers. I will not be rooting for him to do well when playing, but I do wish him good health. Like you, I think we dodged a bullet by trading him. I guess we won't be seeing Devers playing 1B any time soon.
  22. Baseball Prospectus has Wong ranked 23rd defensively out of 71 catchers who have caught at least 100 innings. He has a Catcher Defense Added of 1.1 runs, which is pretty good considering his lack of playing time. Additionally, you can't discount Wong's familiarity with the staff. IMO, there would be little to no upgrade in replacing our backup catcher.
  23. Absolutely, there is benefit of moving an outfielder for a great pitcher. Just don't sell low because we have a surplus.
  24. I pretty much agree with this. I'm less inclined to trade an outfielder than you are, but beyond that, I'm in agreement, especially with keeping the farm strong. Because of the Devers trade and the new found flexibility that came along with it, I think the Red Sox will make a pretty big push for 2025. Unless the Sox come out of the All-Star break floundering.
  25. I was thinking the same thing, although I was thinking more of Anthony playing first base. That said, the idea of Anthony playing first base has been nixed by management, and I can understand why. I'd be good with Duran playing first versus righties.
