  1. He's too busy building up the Jays farm system.
  2. Cora had some interesting comments a couple of days ago on his handling of the pen. He basically said that he messed up in trying to make Barnes an "ace reliever". I'm not sure that I necessarily agree with him on how he used Barnes. I think the problem lies more with the frequency that he had to use Barnes in high stress situations due to the starting pitching underperforming and the offense not tacking on runs like they did last season.
  3. By all accounts, Devers is one of the hardest working players in the game, not only on his baseball skills, but also on his personal fitness. My understanding is that he took some comments about his weight seriously, and he hired a personal trainer and nutritionist to work with him off season. He has the natural talent, but he has taken nothing for granted. I am most impressed with his defensive improvement. I'm glad to see his hard work and commitment are paying off.
  4. Not necessarily true.
  5. Hope all goes well Oldtimer.
  6. Sorry to hear this Moon. My condolences to you and your family.
  7. Perhaps that greatest loss resulting from robot umps would be with the art of catching, receiving the ball. That would be a shame, IMO.
  8. This was an interesting read. I never knew the mud that they used on baseballs was so specialized. Good stuff.
  9. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. If Sale had had a typical Chris Sale season, then walked as a free agent, there would be a lot of criticism about not extending him during preseason. I don't recall very many people being upset about this extension when it happened.
  10. Ditto. Edit: I do wonder why he will often rest 2-3 starters during the same game.
  11. According to Pythagoras, the Sox are technically only 6 games behind the Yankees. I know that means nothing in terms of actual records, but don't kid yourself into thinking the Yankees are as great as their record says they are. The Yankees still haven't won anything yet. I will probably have to concede the division to you at this point, but it ends there. The playoff results are far from being conceded.
  12. No, I haven't. It is now mid August and we are fighting for our playoff lives. It's time to manage differently than the way one would manage in June.
  13. The Sox played .750 ball in two different months last season, April and July. The team has the ability to do it, they just need to do it.
  14. This is nonsense.
  15. Short and simple, but pretty much says everything that needs to be said about Devers. And the guy is only 22!
  16. He's hitting more line drives this year.
  17. Devers' exit velocity is pretty insane, not to mention an improved contact %. Not saying that Devers won't regress some, but I also wouldn't drop him from my fantasy team any time soon. (Not that I ever draft Sox players on my team.) Also, I'd be more concerned about a few of your players BABIPing around .360 and your Pythagorean W-L record which has the Yankees at 75-50, 8 games below your actual record. The Yankees are not as good as you think they are.
  18. Cora is supposedly going into sprint mode. He is considering using his starters in relief roles on their non-starting days, thereby lessening the need for that 13th pitcher. He has not given up on the season.
  19. But the best relievers often come out of nowhere.
  20. There is also the same risk of the expensive arms not amounting to anything. Take a look at all of the busts this year, including Kimbrel so far. The task is to find the inexpensive arms that will not be busts. They are out there.
  21. That's fair, but the team was not counting on such a reduced starter workload this season. It was built around having a strong rotation that would get relatively deep into most games.
