  1. Beat the Yankees. That is all.
  2. I don't disagree with what you're saying, that the caution used during ST was because of the postseason run. What I'm saying is that the effect of taking it easy during ST and early in the season, regardless of the reason behind it, should be that the pitchers would be stronger and healthier later in the season than they would have been otherwise.
  3. I am not a fan of most of Manfred's gimmicks. I agree that the length of today's games have become too long for the casual fan. I blame the commercial breaks, but I know that's not going away. Personally, I think the decrease in the interest in the game have as much to do with economics and society's reliance on electronic devices and instant gratification than anything else. The game of baseball remains a beautiful thing.
  4. Pretty much every other fan base would kill to be in our shoes. One of the opposing team's broadcasting crew, I can't remember who now, made a point about this a few weeks ago during a telecast. They talked about how frustrated we must be this season, but what other team's fans wouldn't give to have the success that we've had. Remember the days of "Just one championship before I die?" These are great times to be a Red Sox fan.
  5. I think that was what the FO and coaching staff had in mind.
  6. I love Mookie and would love to see him remain a Red Sox for a long time. That said, I am strongly opposed to extending a huge contract to him.
  7. I am sure we'll be waiting for a while.
  8. Our bullpen has not been good in terms of save %. That said, IMO, they are far from the biggest reason the team has the record that it currently has. Starting pitching is #1, which indirectly affects the effectiveness of the bullpen. And as good as our overall offense numbers have been, they have been (especially earlier in the year) inconsistent and unable to tack on after scoring early. During a game a few nights ago, Eck said that when the starting pitcher went at least 5 innings giving up 3 or fewer runs (not even a quality start), the team has a .750 ish winning %. That's rather telling.
  9. Yankees are 8-39. Astros are 10-39. Twins are 8-41. Also, we are 63-9 when leading after 7. The Yankees are 76-5. The Astros are 76-6. The Twins are 68-8. The data is at BR, under Scoring, in the Inning by Inning W-L table.
  10. In 2018, the Sox were 12-43 when trailing after 7. The winning % was better in such games last year.
  11. LOL Well played.
  12. This is not a true statement.
  13. I agree with that, depending on what Henry's intentions are, specifically in terms of the luxury tax penalty. On second thought, I think I agree with that regardless.
  14. I think most people know that I am not a Dombrowski fan either. I really dislike the approach that he took the first two years that he was with this team. At the very least, I think he is given far too much credit for the moves that he made during that period, and also far too much credit for the Red Sox going from last place to first place. All that said, the teams that have been on the field since Dombrowski came aboard have been legitimate WS contenders on paper, including this year. We might not agree with everything he did, but despite that, the team should have been much better. Dombrowski does not deserve much of the blame for this season. In fact, I think Dombrowski did some of his finest work with the Red Sox in 2018 and 2019.
  15. That's fair.
  16. Yikes! That's crazy talk Notin.
  17. The 'babying' in ST almost definitely affected the way the starters performed in April. From then on, it's on the pitchers themselves.
  18. +100
  19. I would not have bunted in that situation.
  20. Sure, but that's not what I'm reacting to at the moment of a blown call.
  21. I am really surprised by how many people think Dave needs to go based on this season.
  22. I would definitely be angry at the ump. Pitch framing would be the last thing on my mind. The same would hold true if the Sox won the playoff game under the same conditions. I would be thanking the ump, not applauding the great pitch framing.
  23. It is never, never weak to take pot shots at the Yankees.
  24. The Yankees are not as good as they think they are.
  25. That proves that your rotation stinks. Last year, you only needed 3 innings from your starters.
