  1. I can't remember where I read that and what the details were surrounding it in terms of the Sox resetting, but I'm certain I read that somewhere. I've been wrong before though.
  2. So in order to keep Mookie they would have to give up other players. Maybe it's semantics, but I don't agree that the only valid reason to let him go is because they don't want to pay him that much. What you're saying that if the team considered nothing else and decided they didn't want to pay Mookie $400 million, then that's a valid reason. But the team can't consider nothing else.
  3. Great stories everyone. RIP Tom.
  4. Sale will be our midseason acquisition who will put the team over the top.
  5. Would the Sox have been able to reset the luxury tax penalty this year or next? If I'm not mistaken, a $300 million contract to Mookie would have ended up costing close to $500 million after the tax penalties.
  6. He has a 66.7% K rate. LOL Impressive first game, then nothing. Of course, we are talking extremely SSS.
  7. Touche'.
  8. If it comes down to a choice between the Yankees and the Rays, I'm going with the Rays every time. There might be some action in that game tonight. Yankees are off to a good start. LOL
  9. I'm not sure what Sox fans you're talking about, but I'm still holding out hope for going on that incredible 20-2 run and making the playoffs.
  10. Henry is at fault for hiring Dombrowski in the first place.
  11. The FO had said that they wouldn't be able to keep all of their players and that is due to the dreaded cliff. In other circumstances, Henry might have opened his wallet for Mookie.
  12. But why didn't we want to pay Mookie $400 million? You can't look at his contract in a bubble. Whether the Sox are willing to pay out a big contract has a lot to do with how much they're paying other players and how many cost-controlled players are on the team or will be in the near future.
  13. No, I think you overestimate how screwed my team is. They are playing very poorly, but they're not as bad as how they're currently playing. I can't argue about the state in which Dombrowski left our farm, but when he left, we had, and still have, a solid core of players.
  14. Nothing like the war on WAR to bring Dewey back.
  15. Is it bad that I have no clue who we're talking about? LOL
  16. That has been how my days have been this week.
  17. I tend to agree with your first paragraph, but we could have done without the second one.
  18. Yeszir to the rescue! I was just tired of a few posters carrying their political opinions and rants into several other threads, and continued to do so despite requests from several posters not to do so, especially when you were allowing politics in the "Anything Goes" thread. My feeling is that if you want to discuss politics, go to a political forum. At any rate, we could probably use a couple of moderators who are here on a regular basis. And let me also say that I think this is a great forum and it's usually a fun place to come to post about baseball. We just need to lose the politics running over into the other threads.
  19. I agree with most of this. However, Bloom will find a way to be competitive next year by signing solid, yet inexpensive and short term players. Book it.
  20. By competitive, I mean the team will be in the playoff hunt. I don't expect the team to dominate or run away with the division, but we will have a good chance at the postseason. Once we get to the postseason, anything can happen. IMO, Bloom should not exceed the luxury tax this offseason. Let the reset run another year. Then, if need be, he can exceed the limit after next season, by which time we should be getting close to the Dodgers' level of excellence as a franchise built for the short and long terms. Bloom has had a good teacher and role model in Friedman.
  21. I don't disagree with your first statement, but the talent is there. It's not like Bloom assembled a bunch of scrubs for position players. Bloom is going to assemble a contending team by doing the Bloom thing. That's why he was hired. He is not going to spend unwisely, and he will continue to strengthen our farm in the process. Once again, you need to stop with the 'massive rebuild' posts. As much as you'd like to believe it, this team is not in as bad of shape as you think it is. I think Bloom scares you.
