  1. Also, please do not sign Bregman for 5 years.
  2. I completely understand your and others' position on this. If we added a bat and not another starter, I'd be okay going with the rotation that we have. If we added a #2 pitcher and didn't add another bat, I'd be okay going with the position players that we have. It would be nice to add both, but I don't see that happening, at least in terms of 'significant' upgrades to both. Like I said, if we only add one, my preference would be a starting pitcher.
  3. I believe in KC, offensively, at least. I think he can even become a pretty decent defender. I'd even be willing to try him at 2nd base again. Put him at one position and leave him there. Bat him in the #8 or #9 hole and leave him there. Last year, after having a little bit of success early in the season, I think the Red Sox put way too much responsibility and way too many expectations on him. IMO, the pressure got to him. #Kristian Campbell bandwagon
  4. Stubborn, yes. Delusional, no. We could potentially have the best rotation in the AL, but there is a lot of uncertainty there. A LOT of uncertainty. Granted, there is also a lot of uncertainty with some of our current bats, but I've always been one who would much prefer to have a top pitching staff and a mediocre offense rather than the other way around. In a perfect world we'll add another starter and another bat. If we can only add one, however, I'd rather add a #2 starter.
  5. No one knows what's going to actually happen on the field. Building a good team on paper is really all a GM can do. If projections, including analytics and scouting reports, have the Red Sox winning 98 games, then IMO, the GM has done his job. If the Sox then go on to only win 80 games, I can't really fault the GM for that.
  6. Personally, I would be okay with this, excepting the fact that it would leave us thin, depth-wise. That said, I am thinking that Breslow will add either a 2B or a 3B, with Mayer filling the other position.
  7. Thank you for this post. This is pretty much the way I see things. IMO, Henry is willing to spend, and he's proven so time and time again. He's just opposed to handing out large contracts to aging players (rightly so), which makes it seems like he's being cheap. At any rate, I am very pleased with this ownership group on the whole.
  8. Touche'. I was actually really excited about that signing. It didn't work out, obviously, but that's the kind of deal that I'd make any day of the week.
  9. Well, he opted out of a guaranteed $80M over two years, so he is obviously looking for bigger and longer. If I had to guess, I'd say he gets a 5 year deal from someone not named the Red Sox.
  10. I agree. Henry's a businessman, first and foremost. He didn't make his fortune by making a lot of bad decisions.
  11. There is overpaying, and then there is grossly overpaying. I'm okay with overpaying for a 1-3 year deal. It's the 8+ year contracts to free agents that get me.
  12. It's only for a year. As someone once said, there is no such thing as a bad one-year deal.
  13. I do not disagree Randy. Let's hope we get the #2 version of Gray, but there really is no way of knowing. Perhaps Bello can step it up and be a bona fide #2? Our rotation can potentially be very strong. It could also potentially be mediocre after Crochet. I'd still like to see another top of the rotation starter added. For me, that's a higher priority than adding another big bat.
  14. Well there are certainly many, many posts stating that Henry is greedy and/or cheap. I really can't fault anyone for thinking that. I just have a different opinion on that matter.
  15. Good for Seattle. I really hoped the Sox would bring him back.
  16. No doubt. He might even get 6.
  17. This is a sincere question to anyone. Do you really believe that Henry is greedy and cheap?
  18. We have repeatedly seen how badly long-term contracts work out. Not just recently, but for as long as long-term contracts have been a thing. That's why I am so shocked when I see player after player get such long contracts.
  19. I do not disagree about trading an outfielder. I just hate the idea of it. IMO, Mayer is filling one of either 2B or 3B for sure. I don't know who will fill the other position, but I'm having a hard time seeing the Red Sox paying the cost it will require for Bregman, Bichette, or Marte.
  20. Yeah, I wouldn't plan on giving him any regular starts at catcher, but it's nice to have that 3rd catcher, just in case.
  21. I'm sure they are. This is the problem with opt outs. If we want Bregman back, we'll probably have to give him at least 2 additional years over what his original contract with us was.
  22. That's the thing. Henry's budget is limited, regardless of the fact that he can spend without limit if he wanted to. Bad long-term contracts can hurt us for years to come. I think that Gray could possibly perform at the #2 level. I would still prefer another top starting pitcher over a big bat, if we are only doing one of the two. There's still a lot of offseason left. We may be surprised, or not. LOL
  23. There is no way that the Red Sox should sign Bregman for 6 years. Three years should be the limit, IMO.
  24. I completely agree with your first paragraph. It really does sting to see the Dodgers and Betts having so much success. I'm almost at the point where I'd pull for the Yankees over the Dodgers, but nah. Can't do that. The odd thing is, I'm really happy for most of the individual Dodgers players. I was very happy that Kershaw, one of my long-time favorite non Red Sox players, retired on such a high note. It's the organizational philosophy that I'm vehemently opposed to. As far at the Red Sox seemingly not having much urgency, I think it's just their unwillingness to give out the huge contracts. I can't say that I blame them. I think that Henry would balk at the huge contracts regardless, but I think you're absolutely right that the possible lockout is one more additional factor to that.
