  1. I wouldn't have had Bichette in the slugger category, but looking at his numbers he has some pop to go along with his average. I'm coming more and more around to this idea if we can get him at a good deal. But... - The Athletic's Jim Bowden projects him to sign for $189 million. - NBC Sports' Matthew Pouliot recently projected Bichette would sign a massive eight-year, $216 million deal in free agency. - Baseball America projects Bichette to sign an eight-year, $240 million ...seeing as Bowden is a f'kin idiot, I'd say we're looking at somewhere between the last two contracts, which is pulling the collar away from the neck territory.
  2. Their problem is, they want to improve D and get more power into the line up. Two things that don't often go hand in hand. I think playing him at 2nd would see an uptick in his D. How much is questionable, however. His lack of strike outs is appealing.
  3. I hope (and think) they offer it, and I'm totally at peace with whichever way it goes after that.
  4. But do you see it as a must if the contract is 6 @ $180M? (Bregman)
  5. Interesting that Story hasn't immediately opted in. Most of the players have given early decisions around the league, and he's had plenty of time to consider it.
  6. Agreed. I didn't realise Bichette was still so young. I'd be more than okay with him at 2nd and Story/Mayer manning 3rd/SS between them, as long as the contract is reasonable. This team could do with more hitters that put the ball in play, too, as long as we get another masher (or 2 preferably), but how we'd do all that with the payroll I don't know.
  7. I'm less sure, but as long as it's not from us, I'm good.
  8. I'd be fine with that for the 1-2 punch we'd then have
  9. I think they may well do that, too.
  10. Baseball America is predicting Alex Bregman — 6 years, $180 million. Um - no.
  11. 2 from those 3 does feel a pipe dream, however. Plus at some point (soonish) you'll essentially have 2 aging DHs on your team.
  12. Yeah, I'm very glad we don't have Bogey here at the moment, and I always liked him best.
  13. Romy HAS to come back. Or we'll need a thread titled 'Bres is ruining baseball'
  14. Personally, I think Minnesota hang up and never talk to us again if we made that offer.
  15. I don't think that gets it done for Skubal (as in the extension). I'd be up for that trade if he agreed to that however. I don't think Detroit would be inclined to take it however. We can only really get one starting pitcher as the infield is so threadbare, and we have injury prone players for that ones that are here. There's a lot of work to be done this off season.
  16. Oh I'm definitely on the 'please don't opt out' side of things. Which is mind-blowing compared to where I was in May.
  17. Ride out the J.D. Martinez contract for a year, or find a way to move him, or ANYTHING. Up there with Chaim's two deadlines for keeping me awake at night.
  18. I'm okay sending Tolle or Early as neither have proven anything - Ryan has proven plenty. You spend prospects on proven talent. That said, if we can get away with moving neither and Campbell as the main piece, I'd be over the moon, moon.
  19. Hard to say with Brez - he appears definitely analytically inclined shall we say. But as ex-ball player you'd hope he has the other brain on active, too.
  20. And to think Schwarber was available for the same price 12 months earlier. 😧
  21. Well deserved for Raf. Makes Abreu all the more valuable in trades...
  22. Same. Retooling our infield would take SERIOUS work, some of which would need to be trades with 29 teams that see how desperate we are.
  23. No, Masa feels like a real stick in the mud, unfortunately. If they trade Harper, they can go back and get Schwarber no worries. I think they'd get out of that Harper contract given the chance. Whether they'd eat a big chunk of his contract, or take salary on in return is hard to say. It's a very difficult trade to judge.
  24. I think he'll be good to go over the first tax line. Little to no chance he'll go over the second line though. I saw that Merloni video, too. It does feel very much like Ryan is the one that they have their sights on. I do expect that to happen. I think Early and Tolle getting the late season promotions (Harrison, too possibly), will increase their values and one of them will be going in a deal for Ryan I would think. Which is fine by me. We need to spend our prospect capital (especially on the pitching side of things after the last two drafts) to improve our major league roster now. It's the time to strike and go for it.
  25. Yeah, these are good points. It would be interesting to see how much of this stuff they take into a account, or whether it's mostly/all data driven. Seeing the impression Bregman made to the youngsters, you'd hope that this sort of intangible factors into their thinking. Glue guys might not light up the stat sheet but they offer so much to their organisations beyond the underlying numbers.
