  1. Yeah, I was hoping his market would be drawn downwards due the fat the Mets seem nonplussed about brining him back, and there are few other suitors, seemingly. But that Naylor deal makes me think it will be closer to the above you've mentioned.
  2. If that's the starting line up at least I won't have to worry about concerning myself with wondering if we can be in the hunt for the title.
  3. I have to take umbrage with this point - Campbell can be a special player on both sides of the ball. He's shown nothing to suggest he can be a special player defensively. Hopefully he gets his bat going again but he's a long way off that, too, right now. Left field makes no sense for him right now (unless we trade two starting outfielders - feels unlikely), but it does feel his most likely only possible spot. So maybe it's with a trade in mind. I'd be very worried if we were going into next season with Campbell as our starting LF (or 1st baseman).
  4. There's another point on Campbell that was made first by McAdams (I think) - when you fly through the minors in the speed he did, the level never has time to adjust to you. So you whizz through but never come up against a whole league adjusting to your abilities, and therefore have no experience of then readjusting back. It's worrying he didn't make big strides while back down in AAA. If had have done, this conversation (and the hope around him) would be very different. Edit - I see Larry has made a similar point at the top of the page.
  5. $90-$100m for Naylor on a 5 year deal. That makes think Alonso won't be as cheap as I'd hoped.
  6. Yes and I might marry Scarlett Johansson. Campbell was horrible in defence, didn't stick at a position in the minors (last I heard he is being earmarked for outfield now) and did little with the bat to show he was ready to come back up. He has got a lot to prove.
  7. What position exactly? He hasn't proven he can play defence anywhere as yet. Something has gone quite wrong if Campbell is handed a position.
  8. I thought he needed a bit more time to round out his game, especially against lefties. Which is part of why he got platooned so much. I'm not down on him or anything, but I''m not 100% certain he's in the starting lineup for us at the beginning next year, I think it's likely, but I wouldn't bet on it.
  9. Gore scares the hell out of me. I have no idea why, but he just does.
  10. I'm not confident to predict how they see Mayer at the moment. His defence looks good, but his bat wasn't ready. I feel like Alonso is almost locked in from the amount of smoke around that particular move. I'd love Marte/Buchette to go with him, but whether the payroll masters will is another thing. My gut tells me that's the sort of summer (along with a #2) we're heading for.
  11. I want us to get two big bats. If that's Bregman/another and K Marte/Buchette, I'm okay with rolling the dice for 1st. If Romy drops of a cliff of Casas doesn't come back we can figure something out. 1st is the cheapest problem to solve. That said, I'm also quite high on Alonso. Not that he fixes 1st. His bat plays his defence doesn't. We're not going to solve every position in the infield with new arrivals. One positions is going to be filled from within. Either by Mayer or Romy/Casas.
  12. Yeah, it's not instead of - I'm assuming we'll go big for this year.
  13. I love these posts. Just add Hicks. "No problem Boston, we'd be happy to take on your expensive mistake. Please be sure to give us a call if you have any other issues we need fixing. Hey... what about that Masa chap? That would really free some room up for you guys."
  14. I don't really know what you're trying to do here, but good luck with it.
  15. I'm perfectly okay with that alignment. We're not in a bidding war with the Mets as far as I can see and read.
  16. Why not? We can't get huge players (and salaries) at every position.
  17. I'm okay with Romy at 1st. My personal choice would be Alonso and another. Mayer can play 3rd or 2nd.
  18. Yup. Needs to be one of this combo, or something very similar to it.
  19. It appears to be the plan. Go over next year without too much of an issue. Stay over the year after as its Year 1 again. Then Story and Yoshida are off the books at least.
  20. We need both. We need good offence and we need a better No2 than we have. If we build the offence and leave the pitching as it is we'll get to the play offs and get swatted aside by dominant pitching. Whether we can get Skubal, and still build the offence to the levels we want is a fair concern. Skubal is fun to talk about but there's next to no chance it's happening. It'll be a Ryan type and then money spent on the offence I think. But we need both.
  21. I believe everything resets with every collective bargain. So next year it will be a natural reset regardless of where we are now. At least that's my understanding of it.
  22. Weren't you wanting to slap Henry two days ago because he hadn't been spending enough on the team?
