  1. That is one of those situations where a walk is identical to a home run. You're exactly right. Even if you tee it up, throw a strike. (That's one of the things I liked about Barnes before his unaccountable collapse--his claim that as a late reliever, walks and home runs were in his mind the same.)
  2. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/32328371/mlb-playoffs-everything-need-know-tiebreakers-wild-cards-last-day-mlb-season I'd summarize this in a sentence or two, but I am only able to retain it in my head for a few seconds!
  3. Kike sucks.
  4. Shaw sucks.
  5. Exactly.
  6. Vazquez sucks!
  7. What, though, is the purpose of a manager charging out of the dugout to argue balls and strikes for which he will be immediately thrown out? Exactly what does that do? Make the fans feel better? Does a professional hitter suddenly say, WOW, my manager got thrown out; I think I'll try to get a base hit.
  8. Missed that 'double'. What happened?
  9. Ha ha! Right. Because there was no other way that guy could have seen that as an obvious bad call.
  10. That's the guy who supposed to save the RS at 1 base.
  11. Yeah, a lot of Devers hate here. ... Btw, what's the score?
  12. What was that? I didn't hear you.
  13. Devers making some hard outs, when what he needs, alas, is some soft hits.
  14. No no. Use him as a catcher. That will free up Vazquez to use as a pinch runner.
  15. What are you? A hall monitor?
  16. Yeah, when a run-of-the-mill pitcher gets tired and starts leaving stuff in the middle of the plate, he's a little easier to hit.
  17. How is he going to get there? Swinging at a third strike in the dirt and having it go to the backstop?
  18. This is looking a lot like last night. Taking hittable pitches right down the middle, swinging at stuff out of the zone.
  19. Been listening to Outrage against MLB for scheduling an interleague series at the end of the season. (Apparently the odd/even thing remains mysterious for some baseball fans).
  20. Well, I care what the union wants. And since the owners have a history of bargaining in bad faith, lying, hiding their books, collusion, etc., I would never side with them in anything. (That said, the anti-vax stance is ridiculous and completely immoral; it's no surprise that the primary jackass in the NBA supporting this is a Flat Earther.)
  21. I have never rooted for the Patriots; to me, they are an AFL team. The only games on tv when I was growing up were the Giants, whom I hated bec. they were from NY. SO I developed an allegiance to everyone who played against them: my fav. teams remained for years the Browns, Eagles, and (after Dallas came into the league) Green Bay. Now, much as I love the NFL, the teams I root for change from week to week.
  22. OK. Just a matter of degree? (thus you can't have command without control). (Or as in Real Inspector Hound, when the critic says: "It has elan, but not éclat!)
  23. Yeah I got to listen to that on a drive home. Sounded like they're ready for the winter as well.
  24. No shame. Remember, this is the team that swept them in the season's opening series.
  25. That's a classic example of a distinction without a difference. Some people can throw a baseball exactly where they want; others can't; others can sometimes; others get lucky; others ...
