  1. Like last night?
  2. It ain't house money if it's in your wallet. Go Sox.
  3. No it doesn't. We already know there are no clear definitions of a check swing, that all of them are judgment calls, and for swings like this, basically a coin flip. Only die-hard Giants fans or conspiracy theorists would choose this hill to die on.
  4. Sure they could, and would. Maybe from the Giants fans who claim, like two-year olds, it's UNFAIR to end a season on a check-swing.
  5. The goal is not to split in Houston. That may be a realistic hope. But the goal here, as in all sports, is to win them all. That is why Cora is going with Sale and Eovaldi, no?
  6. Yes, of course. 100 WS titles would not make up for following the Sox from the early 50s through the end of the century.
  7. Wow. I was thinking maybe Mike Fornieles might have done something similar. But after he came to Boston (a bit after I started following them), looks like in his heyday, he was pitching between 80 and 120.
  8. He was also one of the very few who didn't line up to throw others under the bus.
  9. Now THAT'S old school! He was great at SC, his only disservice being that he made Matt Barkeley look like a good QB.
  10. Ha ha! Keep going, you're on a roll. You've clearly 'done your research.'
  11. Maybe check the various surveys that have been done on this. The arrest rate for NFL players is lower than that of the general population for that age group.
  12. You and I obviously watch sports for different reasons.
  13. Yeah, they should have DFA'd him before the post-season began. The fact that they had to pinch-run for him last night says pretty much all you need to know about him.
  14. Ha ha! This may go into the 'over-thinking' file. I'm just happy they won, that Devers went beserk, and Schwarber came up with the greatest fist-pump of the year.
  15. It's the only inning I watched and I wondered that too. I also thought they should have walked Shaw before that. Either way, you could end the inning on one swing rather than hope (1) batter #1 does not put the ball into the outfield, and (2) neither of the next two batters gets a hit. I would assume the odds are better for you leaving the force open, but I also assume Cash had the analytics behind him to make that move.
  16. Yeah, E-Rod sucks, as so many posters have pointed out.
  17. Yeah, I just saw it. The rule seems odd, but how else could you rule such a thing? Gr-rule double, like all other odd things that happen out there.
  18. (I believe he is being ironic. But since I don't follow the board or even watch play-off games [it's stressful enough just to check the score], I'm not absolutely sure of his state of mind tonight.)
  19. Yeah, and tonight is a small sample size.
  20. The key for me is to score more runs than they do.
  21. Of course! NO ONE 'punts' a game in a short series. Fans and fantasy players, maybe. But not pro athletes and managers.
  22. Must have been Steve Lyons, no? I say to Verdugo, GO FOR IT! I was very negative about this guy when he was signed, but his play has completely won me over.
  23. The fan obsession with E-rod's "body language" or "lack of emotion" says more about fandom than athletics. Not every athlete has to charge into the dugout in rage after a K, throwing bats around and smashing things, a la Keven Youkilis before Manny offered to punch him out for doing it. Getting excited, jumping up and down, pounding one's chest, and screaming is entertaining (and sports is, after all, entertainment), but has absolutely nothing to do with effective performance.
  24. Oh yeah, the manager punted. Happens all the time, especially in 5-game series. One game? Doesn't mean crap when you only have to win 3. If it were 7 games, doubtless he would have punted two or three.
