    but Dude, in what world are the best players going to sign nothing but short term deals? 'Market value' has changed since the good ole days before free agency.

    I don't think Ole Red is ever going to reconcile himself to a vision of super-stars playing for the Sox, when all that money could go for a new yacht for DH.

    Yeah, who wants to see a bunch of has-beens like Betts, Trout, Ohtani etc. in a Red Sox uniform? We can just thank God for free-agency when we're no longer stuck with long-term commitments to losers like Yastrzemski and Williams.

    Can't remember who was the subject of his five minute rant "A DISGRACE to basketball! A DISGRACE to basketball!" Was it Elgin Baylor? It was around that time I stopped listening to that a-hole. (Of course now, if we want stupid, belligerent, drunken commentary a la Harry Carey, all we have to do is turn to this very forum!)

    I have a feeling ownership is putting moles out on various boards to start a groundswell against the best, most highly paid players.

    If he had prefaced that with "Of course we are disappointed in how the year has gone, but looking ahead ..." there might be a reason (not a valid one I think) to believe that he was actually being truthful.

    Not exactly sure how Kennedy can be serious about the 'strong belief in the direction of this franchise from our ownership group.' ??? What 'direction'? Have they not watched the games this season?

    What shocks me about Portland is discovering that even garden-variety AA pitchers can throw 95! I used to love MiLB because there would be lots of hitting, and fielding was always an adventure. That seems no longer to be the case.

    Not intending to cause offense, but you, sir, if I remember your posts from a couple of years ago (you've been on 'block' for a while) have an unfortunate habit of taking any disagreement or even garden-variety jocular back-and-forth as a personal attack. They're not. Basically, what people do when they talk sports is to argue and disparage each other. There are a couple of posters here who attack each other in personal, juvenile ways; I don't see many of those exchanges because of the 'block' function. No one seriously attacks anyone, you included; why would they? it's an anonymous board, and the fact is, no one gives a crap about you (or about me or anyone else). But there is no way a fan base is going to be harmonious (if I may use your moniker) when their team is having a season like this.

    It's not tobacco, which is not allowed in MLB. I read somewhere what it was--can't recall. Some weird mixture of bubble gum and sunflower seeds.

    Well, he's hitting better this season than anyone else except Bogaerts and Devers, so he really hasn't been "sucking all year."

    Well, they're slumping. They are still among the best hitters on the Sox. Who would you rather see up there? One of the AA prospects RS could get for them?
