  1. Well, we don't know that! Yet. His suspension saves the P's a half-year of his salary (correct?) and he has a long career ahead of him.
  2. Agree. when you're talking about putting together a contract for one of the best players in the league (Betts, Ohtani, Devers, Judge), this is NOT the time to be thinking about saving money, or making a great deal, or talking 'home-town discount' or anything of that nature.
  3. But then, in prof. sports, where 'value' is not really calculable, it doesn't matter how you and I evaluate an offer. All that matters is 'market value': and the RS did not offer him that, as the LAD offer proved.
  4. But then, that's exactly what the RS announcers (can't remember whether it was tv or radio) said about the "embarrassing" Tampa Bay lineup, i.e., the lineup that swept the lowly RS. So there's improvement!
  5. I don't know. What was your experience playing sports? I remember being 'sort of' invested in winning/losing (more invested in whether I played well or not). But I don't remember any 'carry-over' effect: you wanted to play well; it didn't matter what you'd done earlier. I think you're right about fans, although there is some evidence against this (e.g., no fan I know of killed themselves bec. their team lost).
  6. One of the useless things I learned after 40 or so years in the work-force is that complex and convoluted administrations provide their apologists cover for any decision that goes wrong, in that everyone has the ready excuse: 'That's not my department'.
  7. Yeah blaming the FO for signing guys who end up with injuries would be like blaming them for bringing on a lot of guys with 'character' issues (I would say 'intangibles' but that's probably not the word to use here): Pham, that catcher (oops, wrong word again!), even Verdugo at the time he was signed. Think what bargains you can find among guys with 4 or 5 TJ surgeries in their pasts or a couple of years on probation.
  8. Totally agree. (And you just know there's going to be some troll out there who pretends to deny this.)
  9. Yeah, I was about to say that Devers really needs to be sat down for a few games. (Maybe that's why we're here, instead of making serious decisions.)
  10. If the person responsible for the roster were doing a good job, or even a decent job, it would not require a spread-cheat to demonstrate that.
  11. Unless I am completely mis-reading what you say (which is quite possible), you seem not to have understood that my post was ironic.
  12. Gee, I wonder why. Given that all the talk this year has been about trading them away for prospects, and F.O. has done absolutely nothing to quash that.
  13. I don't understand how they could have declined collectively when the morale on the team is so obviously sky-high and each guy is confident that management has their back.
  14. I am still pissed thinking of the load of prospects we could have gotten by trading those guys away.
  15. Did Cora or anyone field the question "WTF was the call there?" Was it supposed to be a safety squeeze? Did Arroyo miss the call on a suicide squeeze? I really can't see how a bunt right at the charging 3B (who beat CA to the ball!) was supposed to work. If he'd been swinging away even weak contact could have won the game.
  16. So when you go to the store, and they say "Sorry. We're out of your favorite items. But don't worry, we've got some other stuff here: you don't know a thing about it; it's not as good as what you used to buy; you'll pay the same price but it's much cheaper for us!" you're good with that?
  17. Yeah, whoever it is who blathers away while we're trying to hear Eck.
  18. Yeah, I'm not sure why some give him (or the RS) credit for a 'productive' AB even though that was labelled a hit. It was 100% negative, since his potential run was meaningless.
  19. Could we retire Youk instead?
  20. My sources say it was because the bouncer told him he was not allowed to pleasure himself in public.
  21. Soto and Bell to the Padres. Pham and Maguire to the Sox! ... RS also reportedly interested in a .147 hitting OFer DFA from Rays. Once again, I can only say "WE'RE SAVED!"
  22. Come on. What Dewey was saying was obvious: this is the third time we've heard a major trade justified with the old canard 'Don't worry we can resign him as a FA after the season.' And if Bogey were traded, we'd doubtless hear it again.
  23. I think McQuire has his hands full at the moment.
