  1. Please, Rafy, do NOT pull a hamstring trying sh*t like that!!
  2. *****. (That's old guys' star emoji!)
  3. Yeah well if Sale were on the mound, he wouldn't have been happy about those last two plays by his replacement.
  4. The Dead didn't get to Maine until after my pathetic musical tastes were formed. But Bill's announcing? What a hoot! You could never forget that in the end, it (whatever it was) was a damn kids game.
  5. And? Not sure I follow you. Or are you just listing some figures.
  6. Or is having the best player in the league and getting rid of him as a cost-cutting measure the definition of that term?
  7. Robo-umps NOW!
  8. Loved his calls when he was doing Clippers games when they were at their worst. It was very hard to make a serious comment concerning them, and he rarely did!
  9. No. Wait for him to peak. Then trade him for two prospects and an injured journeyman, paying half his salary as well of course.
  10. Actually, that answers my question about what's wrong with O'Neill. For some reason, I didn't consider that. I would assume the 'post-concussion' effects would show up particularly for baseball players. In football, hockey, etc., you can more or less power through it. But hitting a 95mph fastball? different matter.
  11. Has anyone been watching closely enough to figure out what other teams have apparently figured out about O'Neill? Is there a pitch/location that he simply cannot hit?
  12. Not many posters would post two dozen posts on the same thread, object to everything anyone else said, then repeat the point made by others, then conclude by referring to one of his own posts as definitive. I'm used to this in academia, but I've rarely seen it here!
  13. Personally, I would rather have a guy with a high BA than a high 'line-drive-rate'. Since he hasn't hit a HR in two years, and fewer than half those line drives are hits, I'm guessing they aren't exactly bullets.
  14. But then, I've never seen a call where Fred was wrong
  15. Yup. That's why I prefer Raphaela to some ho-hum journeyman.
  16. I agree with all that. But again, do we really want umpires huddling discussing things like this? "You know, Fred, I'm pretty sure the ball was foul, but damn he got good wood on it and deserves a hit; whaddya say?" or "Come on, Fred, the throw clearly beat the runner; so what if he missed the tag?" And how is replay going to determine whether the interference affected the play? The worst use of replay is to get involved with pure 'judgment' calls like this.
  17. I'm with the ump. MLB says there is discretion on that play, but they didn't cite the rule-book page (or I didn't see it). You interfere with a fielder and you're out. Why should it be otherwise? Do we really want umpires huddling and deciding, well, I don't think it REALLY affected the play, whaddayou think, Fred? or 'Dunno, I think that throw mighta got him, mebbe not. Fred?'
  18. Of course, then there's the fact that Raphaela is great to watch, and sports is (or was, I guess) a form of entertainment. I have no interest in seeing him replaced with a .200 hitting journeyman who may have a better dx7wWAR++.
  19. Agree. And they probably should have brought him in in game 7.
  20. There is also the illusion of the 'hop', which apparently is due to the eye/brain switching from distant to close focus. Dunno. But I know I've read that somewhere. UI remember as a kid, one of the few RS games I got to go to, i had the illusion that outfielder throws rose--again, because of the speed? (The guy I remember focussing on was Carroll Hardy!, who apparently was much better at football than baseball, leading to some mean-spirited razzing: "T'row 'im a football; mebbe he can hit THAT."
  21. Well, one of them was Jim Rice, but in fairness, he seemed to realize that the only issue was that it cost the batter an RBI/
  22. Twice announcers criticize TB runner for not scoring from 3rd in the 9th. WHY? His run meant nothing; the two potential runners behind him are the ones that count. So he stayed right where he should have.
  23. Didn't see the double steal. Why didn't they just tag Devers out with 2 outs?
  24. Or Rafy or Abreu or Wong or Bello or hell, trade the whole team, or better yet, sell it. Whatever you do, don't keep players who are productive and who fans want to see. That is SO last year!
