  1. Probably not a lot of posters here were CLippers fans in the bad ole days when BW was color-commentator. He (and his straight man Ralph Lawler) made them tolerable. What 'insights' were to be had concerning that team? ('You know, the Kandy Man is more effective dunking the ball than attempting a 10-foot jump shot'?)
  2. Yoshi hit .287 last year.
  3. He was funny. Some people just hate that.
  4. I actually see only one post here that is marked by hate. And please name those 'hate-filled hippies,' because most of us have no clue what you're talking about.
  5. Does anyone recall the reasons for sending Bernadino down earlier this year? (or am I misremembering).
  6. Please, Rafy, do NOT pull a hamstring trying sh*t like that!!
  7. *****. (That's old guys' star emoji!)
  8. Yeah well if Sale were on the mound, he wouldn't have been happy about those last two plays by his replacement.
  9. The Dead didn't get to Maine until after my pathetic musical tastes were formed. But Bill's announcing? What a hoot! You could never forget that in the end, it (whatever it was) was a damn kids game.
  10. And? Not sure I follow you. Or are you just listing some figures.
  11. Or is having the best player in the league and getting rid of him as a cost-cutting measure the definition of that term?
  12. Robo-umps NOW!
  13. Loved his calls when he was doing Clippers games when they were at their worst. It was very hard to make a serious comment concerning them, and he rarely did!
  14. No. Wait for him to peak. Then trade him for two prospects and an injured journeyman, paying half his salary as well of course.
  15. Actually, that answers my question about what's wrong with O'Neill. For some reason, I didn't consider that. I would assume the 'post-concussion' effects would show up particularly for baseball players. In football, hockey, etc., you can more or less power through it. But hitting a 95mph fastball? different matter.
  16. Has anyone been watching closely enough to figure out what other teams have apparently figured out about O'Neill? Is there a pitch/location that he simply cannot hit?
  17. Not many posters would post two dozen posts on the same thread, object to everything anyone else said, then repeat the point made by others, then conclude by referring to one of his own posts as definitive. I'm used to this in academia, but I've rarely seen it here!
  18. Personally, I would rather have a guy with a high BA than a high 'line-drive-rate'. Since he hasn't hit a HR in two years, and fewer than half those line drives are hits, I'm guessing they aren't exactly bullets.
  19. But then, I've never seen a call where Fred was wrong
  20. Yup. That's why I prefer Raphaela to some ho-hum journeyman.
  21. I agree with all that. But again, do we really want umpires huddling discussing things like this? "You know, Fred, I'm pretty sure the ball was foul, but damn he got good wood on it and deserves a hit; whaddya say?" or "Come on, Fred, the throw clearly beat the runner; so what if he missed the tag?" And how is replay going to determine whether the interference affected the play? The worst use of replay is to get involved with pure 'judgment' calls like this.
  22. I'm with the ump. MLB says there is discretion on that play, but they didn't cite the rule-book page (or I didn't see it). You interfere with a fielder and you're out. Why should it be otherwise? Do we really want umpires huddling and deciding, well, I don't think it REALLY affected the play, whaddayou think, Fred? or 'Dunno, I think that throw mighta got him, mebbe not. Fred?'
  23. Of course, then there's the fact that Raphaela is great to watch, and sports is (or was, I guess) a form of entertainment. I have no interest in seeing him replaced with a .200 hitting journeyman who may have a better dx7wWAR++.
  24. Agree. And they probably should have brought him in in game 7.
