  1. Some numbers here: 1-5, 5.38, 20million Uh "What is ... a typical RS signing."
  2. ... in addition to police blotters, hospitals, and retirement communities ...
  3. And to think there are those cynics who claim the RS aren't all in for 2025.
  4. Well, I was close: In 1969, Red Sox ticket prices were: Box seats: $6.00 Grandstand: $4.75 General admission: $3.00 Bleachers: $2.00
  5. My recollection is in late 60s, early 70s is $3 for bleachers, walking up to the window. But that could be wrong. It seems too high.
  6. Is that 'berm' level? I believe it is. So it's not a 'hill'; it's the result of the entire field being crowned for drainage?
  7. At least Pablo would be on the field the first half of the season.
  8. Well Fried gone, but that's fine, because WE WERE IN IT ALL THE WAY .... as so often before.

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/42527774/mlb-now-eyeing-long-term-media-rights-plan-all-30-teams Is there any chance this would go through? And why would the three teams with the most successful media model want to give that up to join clubs that do not have that? Not a sports economist. Will this have any implications down the road for RS?
  10. And to think, there are still some cynics out there who think that the RS aren't all in for 2025.
  11. “Without getting kind of into specifics, I think we have to be open to improving our team"--C.B. Now THAT'S strong! Not "we're going to improve"; Not "I think we're going to improve"; not even "we have to be open to improving" but "I THINK we have to be open to improving," What GM would say "I don't think we should be open to improving."
  12. I think when you sign FAs like Ohtani and F. Freeman and Yamamoto (and acquire a few role players and scrubs like Betts and T, Hernandez), you know exactly what the impact will be. When you acquire players like Verdugo and Story and Yoshida and E. Hernandez--all decent players--then you're right, you have no idea what will happen.
  13. Listening to fans of a .500 team trash-talk a WS team is a bit on the curious side.
  14. Anyone who doubts the virtue of shedding salary (Story for Betts), or saving money and not wasting it on the latest flash in the pan (Yoshida for Ohtani), should have those doubts erased after last night.
  15. If only he would get back on the field and out of the broadcast booth,
  16. I don't know if we should have kept Sale, but at least we didn't waste money on Betts or chasing around bums like Ohtani and Yamamoto.
  17. Yup. ID your best players and get rid of them. Like all things, it works about half the time, Don't worry about the fans; they don't count.
  18. What you seem to be saying is that Devers has élan, but not éclat?
  19. I'm sure this has been taken up at length, but I'm baffled. What on earth is the point of running Devers out there every night? He is obviously not right (for whatever reason). He is being turned into a .250 hitter.
  20. I agree. There is no evidence whatsoever for that.
  21. It's actually quite amazing how many adversative conjunctions you generate with this statement, which no classic fan could possibly object to. (Fantasy sports enthusiasts and pretend-GMs? ... they're a different story). You have the best player in the league on your team? you keep him.
  22. He got rid of the best and one of the most popular players in the league in order to pocket more money.
  23. As a professor once commented on one of my ug papers: "This paper and argument at least has the virtue of being a novelty."
  24. Maybe it never left!
  25. Some truly bizarre and inaccurate bs about Devers' stance and its relation to a classic 'open stance' on (what I assume is) Detroit's broadcast.
