  1. But then, if asked "Do you like leading off?", what would any player say? "No"?
  2. I'm sure you're right. I confess, the intricacies and subtleties of the argument over whether a catcher is responsible for pitchers' success were too abstruse for me to follow, so I am having difficulty determining whether (and whose) remarks on this topic are ironic.
  3. I don't understand this. Was the whole deal an 'experiment'? If he hits .300 he stays? If it's .230 he's gone?
  4. Sorry the cartoon was so lo-res. My bad. It's what I feel like when I hear things like 'small sample size', 'it's early', 'no worries', 'he'll find his stride' ... and all the other many variants we delude ourselves into believing when we forget that early losses count exactly the same as late ones!
  5. Yeah, you're right. (This is what the Block or Ignore function is for.)
  6. Dude. You thought the post was a joke, then you RE-READ it and incredibly determined it was serious (how any literate person could do this is beyond me, but so far, so good. We all make mistakes. Even you and me.) But then, you berate posters who over a year ago made this joke as being "stupid" and not real fans. That's what you need to apologize for, not for your surprising failure to understand it.
  7. Then there is that guy Tiger, who is totally washed up at age 43.
  8. Yeah, the poor fans. Who don't get to see concussions or broken legs at home plate anymore. Who do these entitled players think they are? We want are cheap-shot career-ending slides back.
  9. Vasquez clearly should have had it.
  10. “Ground balls, I’m going to block it. I’ve got a cup," Vazquez joked. "Don’t worry.”
  11. Wow!! His post was NOTHING compared to the depth and wit of this one! I think I follow you: water .. wet? Damn! I get it ... Like "The Pope is Catholic"? Whoa! Man, when you take on other posters, you really bring it. Are you a professional?
  12. Cool! Too bad most of those numbers of his seem to be in decline from a couple of years ago when one would expect them to be improving. But if this argument is what it takes to keep him on the field, fine. I'd frankly like to watch him play in the field even if it costs the RS a few games to keep him there!
  13. Exactly! Time to take the Bryce Harper approach to the rules: if it gets in my way (e.g., the shift), then it needs to be illegal. Obviously, opposing pitchers should not be allowed to throw anything other than 80 mph fast balls and occasional change-ups, up in the zone to him.
  14. I know. That's why I like him. But why a hitting coach can't figure out what the difference is between these streaks is beyond me. Again, we're not asking him to become Carl Yastzemski at the plate, just, maybe, Jimmy Pearsall or Gary Geiger.
  15. Well, yes and no. But baseball isn't like basketball or other sports. In basketball, defensive specialists don't have to shoot; in baseball, he has to hit--it's not a 'bonus'. Sure, if he doesn't make that catch last night, it's a one-run game. But if he had gotten a hit or two earlier, that catch wouldn't have mattered. Of course as a fan, I'd much rather watch these spectacular catches than a weak single to the opposite field--that's why I have always liked JBJ. But as far as winning games is concerned, the hit he prevents every three games or so is less valuable than, say, the two hits an average MLB hitter could have gotten at the plate during the same period.
  16. Don't worry. I did the same thing in the 50s. If you stay around long enough, you be listening on the radio again and it will STILL be way past your bedtime, as it is now mine.
  17. Hey, it's a sports board. A SPORTS board! We all pretend to care about things that aren't in the slightest bit important. No need to call anyone out for being a tad hyperbolic.
  18. Well, that's a pretty low bar. None of the losses can be attributed to you or me either, but that doesn't mean we should be playing. You don't think an outfield of Benintendi Betts and JD would be more productive? (I'm sure this is a question that has occurred to Cora. I also assume that, like most of us, he would rather hold his breath and hope JBJ hits, rather than face this decision.)
  19. I don't disagree. But the question is when? And how? Right now, he's on pace for nearly 200 Ks, 0 HR, and at this rate, he will end the season with 15 RBIs. How many games should the RS concede while waiting for him to find his .235 groove?
  20. He was watching the 3rd base coach, who might have helped by, say, telling him when to go.
  21. Well, now they've gotten back into the groove ...
  22. Uh oh. Has JBJ gone back to the 'toe-tap' method of hitting? A style which ensures that you will be off balance no matter when the ball gets there. Of course, the chances of him hitting it are so small, it probably doesn't matter.
  23. Exactly. It's grasping at straws; even what little relevance it has for their first starts, it doesn't explain the problems with their second or third starts.
