  1. Wasn't that one of those soft low and away pitches that JD is not supposed to be able to hit?
  2. Why is Porcello throwing everything down the middle?
  3. Glad he got those frustrations out between innings.
  4. Agree entirely. But then, I just got back from a AA game (a double-header). Front row seats just past third base. $10. And the best parts? (1) The pitch clock! (Can't get that in MLB fast enough). And (2) NO REPLAY!!!
  5. What??? No way! Think of all the fan interest generated: Williams' pursuit of .400; Pete Rose's hitting streak; Sosa vs. Mcquire, Bonds chasing Ruth ... and now, fans just streaming into parks all giddy about who will win the dWAR race.
  6. The game was not lost because of the relative strength of their closers!
  7. The problem with this game is NOT the ESPN announcers!
  8. Tell JBJ that the guys in WHITE uniforms are on his team.
  9. Maybe package him up with Devers and Bogaerts for a good middle reliever. (I'd include Bradley, but you can't trade him now because his value isn't great enough).
  10. What was wrong with this crew? The rule is ridiculously simple: once the pitcher takes any position other than pitcher, you lose the DH. Thus, the 9 guys you have on the field? Those are the 9 guys in the order. The new pitcher obviously has to bat where the 1b who left the game was batting. It's hard to believe a MLB umpire crew would not be able to figure this out, even with help from NY!
  11. Here, we're not talking about what 'other people' do. We're talking about what you as an individual do. You believe X should be a first ballot Hall of Famer. So when you get a chance, you vote 'no'? (not knowing what anyone else is doing). Hardly a NY fan, but to suggest that Rivera is in any way a choker ('leading role in epic collapse ...') is of course ludicrous even to the most ardent Yankee hater.
  12. Why? Say you're an individual voter voting whether a guy gets into the HOF. You have someone you think absolutely should be there on the first ballot. So you vote against him just to ensure he doesn't get 100%? Fortunately, there were no voters who did that, but apparently (for better or worse) cast their ballots in good faith.
  13. Well, in all fairness, no one is claiming that professional athletes are as bad-ass tough as those who spend most of their time on sports boards.
  14. I assume this is ironic. Had Meuller's ground ball been a foot to the right, it would have been out 3, and the RS would have been swept. Under this logic, Williams should never even have had a sniff at the HOF due to his .200 average in the postseason.
  15. Or, much worse!, as long as it's not too low.
  16. Exactly! It's one reason I love going to minor league games (present choice--SeaDogs, AA). Once a ball is hit, you have no idea what will happen. That said, I should also add that the defense you see in AA or AAA these days is much better than it used to be years ago when I first started going.
  17. What is the magic incantation the RS have mastered to turn Orioles pitchers into Jim Palmer?
  18. Again, it's not a feud. Eck is doing what he is paid to do: make amusing, interesting comments. (He doesn't have to clear what he says with players). Price is paid to pitch, not to abuse journalists or pick fights with them. I don't know about the dead dog story--was that a joke? If true, then he needs to do what Eck has done many many times in his career--own up to mistakes. E.g., "I've been going through a rough time, and I wish to apologize to Mr. Eckersley and to Boston fans for my idiotic outburst of last week."
  19. Nice idea. Except for the details. Exactly who are you going to package, and for what? All those hitters who (while not hitting to 2018 levels) are still producing more runs than any other team in the league? Or are you going to gut the already depleted pitching staff and get a 'true ace'--say, a Chris Sale or a David Price or a Rick Porcello or maybe a closer like Thronberg or maybe an E. Gagne or Andrew Bailey?
  20. Laureano is a fish?
  21. I think you may have posted this about 5 minutes too early!
  22. It's not a feud. It's Price being an a-hole.
